Nice design OP. Some clear 3M behind the edge would be a nice addition for preventing scratch marks when grabbing in behind the lip.

Mine did the same, i can't remember the exact date but mine didn't last a year either. The sides of the cap peeled off in a few weeks, and the top is scratched from loading (typical wear). I'll take it off and bed line it when i have the time.

This is exactly what i use the cap for. Works perfect with the Velcro.

mine hits, all stock. I had to grind down the area on the cap, but my touch up paint isnt lasting so i get some rust.

I noticed mine peeling around the edges when I first installed it. I've now also noticed some spots where some of the coating is bubbling up, presumably where the steel is rusting under the coating. Normal wear and tear is one thing, but the quality of the coating is sub-par. If I'm going to have to strip it and recoat anyway, I would prefer to pay less for a bare steel item.

Yea, it's like your describing mine lol

Agreed, i would have preferred to order it bare if i would have know. When i placed my order, he mentioned he had a new PC'er as some of the older caps had issues with the PC as well. PC shouldn't just fall off.

Yeah, my pc is chipping in some areas with the improved powder coat, nothing major but a quality pc job shouldnt chip, scratch yes, not chip. As far as ordering bare, although it would be nice, then people would complain its rusting too much when showing up, not too mention rusting while sitting on a shelf, then dealing with oil/rust preventative. overall a nice product, but the coating still needed some work. I ordered mine a couple years ago, so it may have been improved since

Right, and even if I had bed-lined it from the get-go, to deal with normal wear and tear, it doesn't change the fact that the pc didn't adhere properly so it would still rust out underneath, it would just be hidden.

Lots of fabricators sell parts for our trucks as bare-steel. It comes down to knowing what you signed up for. If you buy bare steel, you should expect some surface prep to be necessary before you coat it. If you're paying for powdercoat, its a fair expectation that the powdercoat would be applied properly. My situation is that I paid for powdercoat, and now I need to strip it bare and completely recoat it within less than a year.

Just got mine installed last night.

First impressions: this thing is way more rigid/sturdy than I anticipated. Really improves the feel of closing / opening the tailgate.

Works perfectly with my Bakflip Fibeax tonneau cover.

I purchased to cover an existing ding at the top of my tailgate- wasn’t long enough to cover it completely, but covered 90% so I’m pleased.

Easily one of my favorite upgrades so far. Thanks @KB Voodoo!

I know this is old, but do you offer small gap and big gap currently? It sure would be cool if you did...

Also, do you offer the bedrail/tailgate caps bare finish? I plan to lineX my rocker panels, some other objects, and do over the rail rust repair for under the crappy OEM plastic caps that caused my bed rails to rust... Awesome design Toyota. I would love to get em bare, and do it all at once.

About to pull the trigger on the package deal to help support my brand new Go Fast Camper...

    Thanks!

I am seriously considering this upgrade as my flimsy stock cap is hanging on by a thread.

Not sure how I feel about he foam though. Have certainly had vehicles rust in the past behind stock decals applied with adhesive.

Has anyone noticed any rust develop under or behind the foam? Any option to install without the foam?

I just installed mine last weekend. Very easy install, took less than 20 min and everything lined up exactly where it should. Foam was "hardest" part as getting the foam lined up on the rear (vertical) surface with the top edge was harder than it looked. I measured the length of the tailgate, found the center and did the same with the foam and marked it with a sharpee. I then started from the middle and moved to the outside edge. Again, whole thing, including removal of OEM plastic cap and cleaning the surfaces prior to foam mounting took less than 20 min.

Same here. I add that when KB says to put the foam tape on as high as possible on the tailgate, he means it. If you get one, you will be amazed at how flimsy the original tailgate is and how much more solid it is after the plastic is replaced with steel.

Just installed my Voodoo tailgate cap today. Overall I'm pleased, looks great, stiff as can be, makes the tailgate lip tremendously stronger. I regularly haul, steel, plywood, long rough cut wood in addition to camping gear. But since I have a BedRug mat on the tailgate, the standard install won't work, the foam is way too thick on the vertical but fine on the top side. As a side note, the vertical foam, when used normally, has to be placed crazy high, far above what the instructions show for the foam to be hidden.

Foam installed just as instructions (identical to the paper instruction photo included with Voodoo cap):

    But foam still is visible:

Foam has to be this high to be hidden:

No way of getting the BedRug mat to slip underneath as it was with the plastic cap:

Removed the vertical foam, had to clean this residue off:

Found some much thinner adhesive foam in my shop, no need to extend to the ends, cap never comes close to touching beyond the middle:

    Tailgate cap installed:

BedRug mat fits too, my knees appreciate that carpet every time I climb in or out to get gear:

Leer topper closes no issues and no different than before:

wow you got full length pieces of foam. Mine were really short, maybe 2/3 length, so i had to cut them and install them in equally spaced locations. i was a little miffed
