It’s one of those cheap mic tuning light bars. Worth it for looks but that’s about it.

Anyone have pics of an MGM with a matte black camper shell? Thinking of buying a used canopy and either wrapping or plasti-dipping matte black to save some dough. Thanks in advance!

How much are you spending on the shell?

I was hoping to spend in the $800 range. Everything that I've seen is around $2k color matched, and some I've seen has a color match that would bother me (close, but not spot on). Trying to figure out if a not-quite-matched MGM cap is better than a much cheaper matte black canopy.

Wait, so do you want a actual camper shell, or just the bed lid (flat truck bed cover)?
Honestly, it depends on the type of shape its in how much you care about looks/life of the thing.
I would advise against something that you'd have to sand. Most, if not all, are made of fiber glass and that'll turn into an eye bleeding, arm scratching mess real fast. If you can work the price down even more, I'd say do it right and get it painted professionally. Otherwise you're looking at retail.
The problem with painting it yourself is that it isn't a flat surface, so unless you have very good painting skills, or just really don't care about looks, it'll most likely come out uneven. It's a large area to paint yourself. I'm speaking from experience too, having gone through an almost identical situation.

Black looks good, IMO. I'd be like you too if the color wasn't a perfect match...

Yeah - I'm looking for a camper shell/canopy. I have a tonneau cover now, but I'm finding I need more height while still covering up/securing things in the bed. Definitely would stick to a plasti-dip situation versus sanding/rattle can paint job. I've had decent luck with the plasti-dip so I think it would look better than paint. I'd also be able to peel it off and preserve resale if I ever wanted to unload it....

Yeah, definitely way cheaper to go that route. What color is the camper youre buying?
Just remember that if you plastidip that big of an area there could be some discoloration of some sort. I've seen videos of people doing their entire car with it, but they looked like professionals LOL

Haven't bought the camper yet - was hoping to see if it was worth a try to get one that wasn't color matched first.
