I have a question for the more mechanically inclined and experienced members.

What is this new sound my trucks making? It started about 5000 mi ago after a trip to the Mojave and has steadily increased in volume since. To me it reminds me of either an old skateboard bearing or the sound you hear from a VW beetle engine.
    I hear it:
    • after the truck has warmed up a bit
    • accelerating / cruising in gear (any gear)
    • usually a bit louder during hard accelerations (especially when pushing it uphill)
    • usually loudest between 2000-2500 RPM (I suspect it's still making the sound after 2500 but I think it's too high of a pitch for me to hear)

As much as i love my first gen, having 6 cup holders between the front two seats is amazing for the trail.

    @tacomgee

And i think you have more options for parts (specifically armor) than first gens. Unless you're going to fab it yourself or get custom stuff.

So much easier to daig noises in person. Is it coming from inside the cab or engine bay?

Have you done any kind of inspection? Are you low on coolant and your fan is locking up to compensate? Air filter clogged? Vacuum leak? A belt pulley bearing got dirt in it and is grinding now?

More shit then I ever planned on doing
Does it go away when the clutch is in? Possibly the throw out bearing?

Originally I thought it sounded like it was coming from the transmission, but it could also be coming from other side of the firewall.

I'll check the first two things, don't know how to check for a vacuum leak.

I guess it's also good to note that I haven't experienced any preformance issues .so far just that noise .

I was going to start cleaning out the engine bay when I get off work to make it easier to inspect.

If they don't, check with other stores in your area as they don't all carry the same stock and don't even know what another store has.

I’d get the BCA one if it weren’t so pink. Who doesn’t like boobs? And fuck cancer.

Would be a toss up between the California one or the Tahoe one if I decide to switch away from the legacy plate. But I neither surf nor know how to swim so not sure that’ll work for me.

Check universal joints. If you adding back lash to load the bearing in a reverse load (so to speak) then when your on the throttle it may squeak. If you've been 5000 miles and it's getting louder it would be my first look. If there are grease fittings give them a few pumps don't let grease spill out and then drive then repeat. If it gets quiet then get them replaced as the damage is them done. The reason you don't want to grease to much is it will put them under a little pressure and then pop they go in a few miles.

If it’s that high pitch chirping noise it could be the throw out bearing.URD makes a replacement kit I had mine replaced about a year ago.
