I was looking at Tacomas on CL and I found a '97 2.4l 4 cyl previously 5-lug that has a SAS swap with a front Toyota pickup axle.

I was looking at the engine bay and there's this absolutely massive pulley and large power steering reservoir. Can anyone elaborate on it? I'm guessing it's aftermarket to accommodate for the larger wheels and solid axle but I have no idea.

Thing is REALLY clean. Looks like this was a very well done swap.

I'm curious, can you re-use the original power steering system on the Tacoma on an SAS or do you have to go aftermarket? That reservoir and pulley is massive, never seen anything like it.

Also has a large master cylinder.

larger MC is for the brakes as well.

And no you can't and sure as hell wouldn't want to use the rack on a SAS. Its weak as hell as it is.

Same here, I just live with it. Replaced my first clutch at 30k miles because of it, then the 2nd clutch/TOB started chirping maybe 10k miles into it. Annoying, but it's rare that the chirping actually leads to a failure (bad news if it were to, though). I've got about 30k on this clutch now, no issues other than the chirp which comes and goes sometimes.

It's a common problem with Tacomas through the 2nd gens as well, I think URD has a fix for 2nd gens but I'm not aware of one for 1st gens.

edit: I've also been reading lately that it's not the TOB that causes the chirp but it's actually the input bearing...either way it's a familiar headache.

Lets see, this weekend I changed the oil, front diff oil, spark plugs, cleaned under the hood, and lubed the driveshaft. Also found out my washer bottle leaks if I fill it up to the top. Looks like the neck is cracked. But, that can wait to be replaced thankfully.

Those figures were from the summers of 2012 and 2013. It was like Ol' Red's prime.

Haven't come close to those numbers again.

That was also when I was driving the perfect commute for fuel economy. About 20 miles round trip, all back rural roads, 45-50 mph, 5th gear, with one stop sign and one traffic light en route.

Ah, mine was all highway @65ish mph.

I tend to get 250 driving around town and like an asshole on the mountain...

Less in the winter with a bunch of weight and stuff in the back...
