I think 1.03c is great improvement. There is still a bit of stuttering but it is greatly reduced. My guess is that Mat needs to borrow a mt Tacoma for a bit to dial it in the rest of the way. Amazing work though considering the lack of a test vehicle!

I've never had any stuttering or surging issues since flashing. The only "issues" was the very sensitive throttle tip-in. 1.03c has mad a huge difference in that area.

I’ve had a couple on mine but much fewer than 1.03B. The very bottom end hops a little on mine as some people have mentioned. I was driving yesterday and basically idling around in 2nd and you could definitely tell it was bouncing the rpm up and down a bit. I’m sure after Mat gets a MT on the dyno, it’ll be all sorted out.

He's welcome to come out to El Paso and use my MT on a dyno somewhere out here to finish up whatever touch ups are necessary lol

    Agreed.

Some street testing is also required for some of these small issues. I would suggest some time in 4lo as well, as the slight rpm surges are quite noticeable.

Regarding the pinging I've been experiencing - I've been watching the "knock correction learned value" (or KC for short) PID, and as expected the ECU backs this value off after I hear the ping. The thing is though, the value (in degrees) will rise again after some driving. Example:

Today I was on a back road at 70-80kph, 6th gear, ~1500-1800 rpm, happy as a clam. KC read about 20 deg. As i went along, the value rose to ~23 degrees. Then I slow down and downshift to third to make the turn to the on ramp for the highway. I put my foot into it, and as I pass through ~3000rpm the engine does about 1 -1.5 seconds of continuous ping. When the KC PID updates, I see that the value has backed off to 19.8. AS you would expect, the power backed off as well.
Fast forward about 5 minutes later after cruising on the highway at 100-110kph, and the KC has risen to 25. Welp, it was time to get off the highway, and down through the gears again - you can guess where this is going. With the KC that high, I was sure it would start pinging again - and it did. The value again dropped to around 20 deg.

My point is, I thought this knock correction system was supposed to find the limit and then not let the engine get to that point again. It seems to be a slow learner lol.

I'm running the 91 file with 91 E0 gas BTW. I've never heard pinging with my truck before 1.03B/C, except for that one test file I ran for Mat back when the original 1.03M/T was in testing phase for 04B10 ECU. That file drove the ignition whacko, severe pinging/power loss and nasty clunk on throttle lift. Basically undriveable. FYI, that is why we (04B10) had a different file from the rest of the M/T crowd at the time.

@OVTune , any thoughts or suggestions? All I can think of at the moment is to try fuel from different stations.

what you are seeing on the KCS is normal operation, until it hits all values and learn limits it looks for, it will take a long time. Every time you reflash it reset it. I see some people are just flashing again and again, give the truck some miles, let everything settle. Every time the truck is flashed all fuel trims, all ignition trims, all KCS trims, idle learning, etc everything is reset.

Ok will do, I've only got about 200km on 1.03C.

Thanks for replying Mat, I was getting worried about my engine lol.. :anonymous:

I kept reading and everything was in kph instead of mph so that sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me :)

I’ve got about 330 miles on mine since I’ve flashed. I need to find some more driving to do… I should also try out 4lo at some point.

Maybe some water in the tank. Try some isopropyl.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Someone should put that in the FAQ. If your truck has issues, don’t reflash or complain - shut up and drive the thing until it’s sorted it’s shit out.

am i the only one that seems to have no perceptible change from "learning"? like every other time, i flashed the lastest, idled it, ran it (1,000mi this last weekend), and it's exactly the same. great, but with some minor issues like tip-in throttle instability and mild surging. shutting up and driving never did anything for the tune.

I don't notice any learning either. Not sure I'm going to go to 1.03C as I like the throttle on B

Mine has seemed to change after 500 miles or so every times I've flashed (which is 1.03 and 1.03B so far)

Be careful what we wish for I guess. I mean in the past some of us complained that the truck learned (or relearned) bad habits over time. Now we have small annoyances that won't go away. The truck drives beautifully otherwise. SO CLOSE.
I don't put that many miles on my truck (Km for you, @Shellshock :) ), so it's going to be a long semester.

Have you tried 4lo with 1.03C yet? I'd be interested to hear your feedback, especially with steady throttle in 1st gear (1000 ~1400rpm).

Not yet, just 2 and 4h. I'll hopefully try it out this weekend.

I'll be trying out 4lo this upcoming weekend as well. Going shooting out in the desert and I usually play on the trails afterwards

I'm running the 103c on my '18 for the last 500kms and I'm going back to the 103b. I've notice that I have a stutter around 1500rpm. It's most noticable in second gear. I'm flashing back to the 103b.
