Started looking at armor today. Went down the rabbit hole of all the different slider and skid options then I ran across some other secondary skids that I’ve never really heard mentioned on here.

Any opinions on these from those in the know?

I imagine this is likely overkill for just hitting local trails but now I’m curious.

Can you elaborate on the modifications it takes for the frame Horns on a 1998 to mount your predator bumper? I see it says you need to cut and weld a new mount.

You can reuse the power steering pump but not the rack and pinion. That gets replaced with a steering box which are pretty cheap. Not sure why he upgraded the pump with such small tires. Not really needed and no reason to upgrade unless your going to 37s and hydro assist or larger.

They need to be cut back to match the frame ends of the 96-97/01-04 style. 98-00 was an oddball with long frame ends so around 3" gets cut off and then a new cap (which we would supply with our bumper) gets welded to the end of the frame to make it more like the frame end pictured above.

Planning to change the fluids in my truck. just want to make sure I have the right amount that I need to buy.

Gear 75W-90 - 6 qts. Front 1.5, transfer, 1.1, and rear 2.5. Does that sound correct? No need for LSD additive right? 2003 V6 open diff.

Transmission Auto. Drain and Fill - 4qts.

I have someone selling one but it was from a 2001 and I don't think it comes with the frame ends. Would you be able to sell that separately?

These would be reasonably easy to make, if Eric doesn't sell them separately (rectangular piece of plate, with a nut welded in the right place on the back, to bolt the bumper to). But I bet he'll sell you some if you're going to run his hardware :)

Ah I see. Been looking for bumpers from tons of vendors but I like the Predator the most. It's sleek as hell.

    1. Deleted the arizona sun-baked "TRD Off-Road" stickers. I was on the fence about this one, but I like the clean bed sides, and it fits the whole utilitarian Hilux vibe I'm going for.
    2. In preparation of an upcoming road trip, I ditched the E-rated winter tires for these BFGs. Went with the classic - KO2, 31x10.50r15. Whew. Man, my spine is thanking me already. I don't know how I convinced myself the ride was acceptable before. The tire shop inflated these to 40psi - a bit high for sure, but it still rode like a Lincoln compared the to the E-rated tires at 29psi. You live, you learn.

I'm back. Missed this piece of crap.

Still stalled it like three times in 1st. Takes getting used to. And I totally lost the shifter knob so I have a picture of one pulled up on my phone. Haha.

I have a Low Range gas tank skid. And my gas tank was pretty dented from smashing it against rocks beforehand, should have got one sooner. That being said, it's a rare occasion when I hit my gas tank.

I wouldn't bother with an elocker guard. It would have to be an incredibly unlucky situation to hit your actuator. It's half way up the front of the diff and relatively out of the way.

I had LCA skids and took them off. They're good at collecting mud, that's about it.
