Leaf Springs - How to tell when they are worn out?

Based on these photos and issues, what opinions do you folks have? Note: Photos are with ZERO load in the truck.

Issues I have:

• Rear easily bottoms out over speed bumps at low speed (Unless I hit a dead crawl)
• Any weight over 50 lbs in the back puts them into a negative bend. AKA a person setting in the bed, a jack, a few bags of rocks from home depot.
• Truck "wiggles" under strong acceleration as soon as the tranny shifts into 2nd. Presume axle wrap? Same thing happens when braking firmly after releasing the brakes.
• Truck leans badly in turns at 20-30 mph.
• Back of truck shakes badly with bumps.

 

2+1 springs - they're done fer.

 

Is that all the springs pre runners get? Looks like you are one spring short.

There was a TSB/recall for those springs.

 

and I think it's retroactive in that they will still replace them due to safety!

Yes, before you do anything go to the dealer! They will swap them out for free! The same thing was happening with my coworker's Tacoma and he also got a few other TSB replaced.

 

They look "factory fresh". - there're scrap.

 

I scheduled a replacement for my rear leafs this friday. I have the 2+1 pack and it has a little negative bend, but not as much as that.

But hey free parts amiright?

 

If you haven't had the recall done do it. Yes they will still do the recall at anytime it is a recall. I had mine done right before I put my lift on. 05 with ~180k when the recall was done.

 

Hmm, mine are worse than OP. How to tell if you qualify for recall? Just call dealership?

No open recalls, weird. I'm pretty sure I have the 2+1 pack.

 

You also have a newer truck. I'm not sure how all dealers did it but I was told some trucks were remedied the before they even sold. At Least that's what the guy I called said.

Im in the same boat. I don't qualify for the TSB leafs, but have the 2+1. I can't even haul a load of firewood, and I have the 5 ft bed. Pretty frustrating. I am looking at going with OME dakars, but wondering if upgrading to the heavy would be appropriate or too harsh of a ride. They recommend 600 lbs loaded for a decent ride. I will only have that once every 2 weeks. Seems like there is always a trade off between comfort and functionality.

 

it wasn't all the 2+1 packs that got the tsb just the ones that rusted into gypsy powder

 

I am also stuck with choosing between normal or heavy duty. I like the idea of having rock solid leafs than can handle any load or any bump like it is nothing. But... I don't want the truck to ride like garbage.
