Hey guys. Got a question fer ya. This part has been mystifying me for some time. The canister looking thing that has the hoses clamped onto it on both sides. Cant find any info on it in the manual or my Haynes manual. My truck is a 2008 4.0 TRD SR5 4X4. Thanks for any input.

Think it's some type of fuel vapor canister, I took mine off to have a look and it's just a hollow plastic container. "Vacuum Surge Tank" is what Toyota calls it.

Any idea what it does and does it need replacing at a certain mileage?

I doubt it, like I said it's just a hollow plastic container it has nothing inside. Unless it breaks or battery acid damages the plastic (this happened to me), I don't see the need to replace it.

Asgard, I took it of and blew into it and its hollow, my question are the hoses connect to and from evap solinoid to the black container loose on your truck. Thanks

Perhaps it is some type of check valve.

These empty vacuum reservoirs with pass-through flow function as a low-pass filter for changes in vacuum pressure. They slow down the dynamics of the vacuum communication to either avoid high-frequency effects or to transform the vacuum level into more of a time-averaged value. That is, if it is hollow inside.

It affects air pressure the same way a capacitor affects voltage when wired in parallel across a load.
