Do you have one on your Tacoma? Seems like the short driveshafts are no problem for most shops. It’s these long ones that are the problem.

@wrekd96 - If you decide to stick with the one-piece, get a spec from the builder as to the critical speed for the shaft. Don't exceed critical. But you already know that.
As an example, a truck with a tire diameter of 31.6" and 3.73 gears has a driveshaft turning at 2,972 rpm at 75 mph.

Here is the formula so you can calculate your own requirement: =((1056*A)/(3.1429*B))*C
    A
    = MPH; B = Tire Diameter (inches); C = Differential Ratio

:boom::eek: That's crazy. Remind me to stay away from one-pieces. As for vibes, driveline angles really help to negate those. Often times lifts cause the driveline to be at a bad angle and thus cause vibrations. I think @OZ-T had posted a video from another thread about it.

I have a double cardin Tom Woods on mine. Drove it from Alabama to Moab, wheeled the hell out of it, then drove all the way back. Have been wheeling it pretty hard for over a year without any problems.

I drive highway quite a bit and it’s not uncommon to cruise at 85-90 mph. So my driveshaft could be spinning at around 3900rpm for long stretches.

In May I have a trip planned from northeast PA to Outer Banks NC.

What is your gearing and tire size?
I looked into all of this for my truck and came to the conclusion that a two-piece double cardan was my best option. So that is what I got.

Got rid of all my vibes. They told me it's a case by case situation though. Some require shims and adjustments to make the ride smooth.

I had a 2 piece in my 03 dc with the 4.7. The 4.7 ate the carrier bearing. It drove the rubber out of the housing. I had to have a one piece made. I have a machine shop do the work. They work on log truck parts and pretty much what ever gets brought in. 90.00 an hour plus materials.

Buying a Woody won’t fix your OTHER issues that are causing vibrations. No different than buying new tires when you have a bent rim. People need to pull their heads out of their asses and realize that mechanics is more involved than remove and replace. Replacing a DS wont fix your worn out springs that are changing your pinion angles. It won’t fix the multitude of other issues that affect driveline angles. It is part of a solution but won’t fix everything if you ignore everything else that needs to be addressed.

The REASON you buy a Tom Woods shaft is he knows his shit and he stands behind his product. When I exploded a brand new TW shaft due to my own stupidity Tom was upfront that he was covering the shaft no matter what I did to cause the failure. He just wanted to know what happened so he could determine if he made a mistake at his end so he could make sure it didn’t happen again. I was full pedal in my Jeep on ice when I hit dry pavement and wheelied the Jeep about 2’ off the ground before it let go. Tom listened to my explanation and said this one was covered but if I do the same thing again we would need to discuss things. I broke all 3 joints plus the flange adapter. That was with 1 ton u-joints and parts. He opened his wallet to stand behind his product even when he knows damn well my stupidity just took money out of his pocket. You still think there is anyone else worth buying from? Tom Woods or nothing.

Wow...didn't even know this was a thing or possible - I thought going one piece for driveline vibes was the preferred thing to do but damn if you aren't lucky that you didn't lose control or burst into flames when that thing went at 70mph.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Can't really help you there, just glad to hear the truck didn't explode when that thing took out the gas tank and possibly you with it! That had to create a hell of a spark or two when it happened.
