I don't mean mechanically, but more from a electronic/infotainment perspective. Another words, in ten or so years from now, what will consumers do when something goes wrong with their ten year old infotainment system? In the future, will we see a large amount of cars driving around with the blank infotainment screens since it will be difficult to find parts for all of these electronic gadgets? What will folks do for music once these things go out?

Ever try to buy parts for old computers? Same idea....

    Anyways, just a thought.

Your fine. My mother in law has a Yaris with 300k on it and it had computers in it and never had a issue. Guy had 2007 or something like that tundra with over 1 mill miles on it and never had a issue with it. It’s not a that they don’t go bad but it’s rare. First time ABS came out everyone was like do t trust it’s. It’s crazy voodoo tech that will kill you and it will never work all that computer stuff controlling ur brakes you will die don’t do it. Now it’s like seat belts stock on every car and no one is complaining. It’s not that they don’t brake but it’s rare when they do.

There will absolutely come a day where electronic parts are no longer manufactured.

But, I wouldn’t worry about that for your lifetime, unless you’re like 11 and I don’t realize it.

We were car shopping for a family vehicle back in 2007, and my young sons wanted the vehicle with the DVD players built into the seat backs.

We were able to find a good new vehicle that didn't have any fancy bells and whistles, and there was a lot of static from the boys.

A few years later, my son and I were driving somewhere, and he brought up that subject. He laughed and said how I had made a good decision, since "nobody even watches DVDs anymore".

Most likely in 10 years, you will be able to purchase something far superior to anything your vehicle is currently running media or navigation wise.

And there will always be junk yards for replacement parts I would imagine.

Electronics are pretty reliable. I’ve never had the EFI system cut out on me and I’ve had them for 20+ years in 3 Toyotas.

As long as electronics are not exposed to moisture they should last a long time.

I don't know. I am just thinking it will be difficult to keep these gadgets up and running in the future. It is almost like the electronics will seriously date current vehicles and make them less desirable. And that is assuming the gadgets and stuff function for the next 10 or 15 years.....

I'm more worried about an EMP causing a catastrophic electrical failure that will prevent me from driving it than the infotainment stuff... even though I opted for the JBL (which I absolutely love).

Honestly the biggest concern with new vehicles is the nav unit. They are very expensive and can lock up for no reason. You can't install double-din replacements so you're stuck with factory only.

Toyotas are the best though and no major issues with longevity.

The opposite end of that spectrum is vehicles like 2005 BMW 7 series or MB S Class, that are simply too expensive to maintain, causing them to plumet in value right to a wreckers yard.

10 years will be no problem, I think 30-40 years+ will start to be an issue.

Similar to the mechanicals, just remember to change the electrons ever 6 months or 6,000 miles...

My 2007 Corolla was one of the last cars you could buy in America without ABS brakes. It had to be one of the last years before it became required. I absolutely hate ABS. It's really terrible in snow, especially downhill in the snow. One of the things that keeps me driving my Corolla is the fact that it doesn't have ABS!

Are you serious about the radio part? Its just a radio, takes 10 mins to install an aftermarket one with full steering wheel control and oem backup camera. Ive already done it. Also, these truck are so popular i dont see why anyone would have a hard time finding parts in the future. I had a 30 year old honda that had computers and it wasnt the computers that were failing it was the mechanical stuff.

My Car is 26 years old, obviously its not loaded with electronics but I had an airbag module go bad a few years ago, I snagged 1 out of the junkyard for $40 and have been good to go.

The list is long, but distinguished.
I'm confused, is something happening with the aftermarket infotainment market (or parts for that matter)?
I put navigation, cameras, satellite tuners, carplay/android auto, etc. equipment in cars that are already over 40 years old on a daily basis. As far as computers and other electrical parts they call it retro-mod for a reason. No worries, you'll be fine in the future. :)

You need to flush your electrons every 13000 miles. Also look for signs of wearing on the edges.

Actually, my girlfriends Yaris infotainment system started freaking out and clicking random buttons/ switching between screens on its own. Took to the dealer and they said it was too old of a unit for the update to be applied...it's a 2015! Luckily it is still under warranty so they ordered an entirely new/ updated unit.

So yeah I see the point about 10 year old touch screen head units going wack and having nothing to replace it with besides aftermarket I suppose

I'm more worried about when all our Tacomas network (due to some nerdy Texas factory tech dude blowing a couple lines of code) and, using a giant hive mind, become self-aware...
