I Wanted to give a short couple of paragraphs on an issue I noticed on my new to me 2006 TRD Sport.
I got it out of Wisconsin, fairly clean on the outside, frame checked out at the dealer, etc.
What I'd like to say is that upon purchase, I noticed the salt stains on the inside on the edges where the right and left shoes of the driver would be. Its got fairly heavy floor mats, but where the mat did not cover on the edge, the salt stains were extremely heavy, like they'd never been taken care of.
I tried carpet cleaner, scrub brush but what helped was a rag with water. scrub, scrub, repeat.
Here's the catch though. I was putting in a flasher relay box at the time as well. You have to take up the molding and several other plastic pieces including the foot rest. Once that is done, you can see under and next to the carpet. Edges were caked in salt, but even more interesting, under the carpet, up by the footrest, I lifted the carpet to clean the salt and a 5 inch ridge of salt appeared. It was about a 1/4 to 1/2 in high. Enough that I thought I'd write about it and mention that for the salt state trucks, it might be worth to pull the molding and see what is under there.

salt will completely dissolve in water, just get some water up in the caked on areas and suck out the mixture with a vacuum

Last owner didn't knock off their boot's when getting in the truck, and when you add heat the slushy snow melts and soaks the carpet.

Like newfie said wash and suck dry, should probably check the rest of the floor.

Do they salt the roads in Wisconsin? I know some states use a different mixture.

I ended up using water, but it still required a fair amount of scrubbing. That salt was impregnated in the carpet. I've never seen a salt ridge like that under the carpet though Interesting!

I live in a salt state... but I’m not a complete slob lol

Weathertechs do a good job preventing this.

I have them too - and live in the road salt capital of the world. They work pretty well, but leak liquid through the attachment points. Every spring I'm cleaning off salt there.
