I also experience the surge at low rpm. It was present on stock tune, just less pronounced when stock.

Another thing to note is the truck will surge even at operating temperature. If I'm moving forward slowly in parking lot (off the gas pedal), turning the steering wheel will induce a surge in RPM, jump from about 600 to 1000 rpm. The RPM will also surge while parked, if I turn the steering wheel. I can hear the steering pump click, them RPM will jump.

I would NOT classify my surging in the deal breaker, or dangerous category. More of a quirk like most others mentioned.

If anything, I like Mat to focus on the stock tires throttle tip in adjustment first, then the surge.

For all the people speaking of surging are you talking about the rpms surging or the truck literally surging forward/backwards? Als rpms raising when turning yur steering wheel is normal as this happens on stock.

You just made me realize I haven't had to deal with the horrible idle shake since flashing. Thank you sir.

Couple hundred miles on 1.03 91 octane and haven’t had the reverse surge but will monitor. I usually always back into my driveways both at home and work so when I park the truck is usually warm. Loving 1.03 every time I’m in the truck! Thanks again Mat

Coming from 91 to 87 i can deffinatly tell the difference. Night and day difference! Power just isn't there ecspecially in mid and high range. rpm is still very smooth on 87 tune. Its worth paying the extra $5. for power.... Can't wait to hop back on 91 octane.

When this happened to me it was during the day probably close to 60'F. I'll try to get a video but it won't be till the end of the week since i'll be in the field in my company car.

I only use the 91 octane tunes so I haven't verified if this is present on the 87 tune.
The surge and fluctuations I get are around 500-1100rpm while reversing into my driveway but its up and down like my truck has cams lol. You can kinda feel the truck jerk little when it does so you have to be careful with your foot on the break. Kinda reminds me of my 08 Tacoma which would lurch forward if I wasn't holding the break pedal down with some force.
I have only noticed this issue slightly while going 1-8mph in my neighborhood while pulling away from house.
The temps don't seem to be a factor in this case like the clunking did when it was cold.
Now I haven't been able to drive my truck much as of late, when I do its been mainly around town and short trips.
I probably have maybe 150-200 miles on this 1.03 and I know I need to put more miles on this.
I can't remember though if I idled the truck for very long when I did the initial flash. I may try to reflash and idle the truck for 15-20 min before driving it.
My truck has slightly bigger tires (BFG K02 265/75/16) and we all know those are heavy as shit.

I do wanna add though that the truck feels awesome so far.
There is definitely a difference between the 87 tune and 91.
I solely ran the 91 Tune in during the older versions until I got the 87 1.03 test tune. The shifting was better but I cold feel a power difference.
1.03 91 tune satisfy's my lead foot though. The truck pulls harder and longer in each gear and I can leave it D without a worry now.

For those people saying there's no power available with the 87oct tune, idk what they're talking about. I have a 6MT and ran 91 on 1.03, 1.03B, and 1.03C, and I am currently on 87 on 1.03C and definitely disagree about power, with 1.03 being the exception for obvious reasons (for those unaware, 1.03B for the MT coincides with the AT 1.03 release). Yeah sure, you lose a bit of power due to the difference in tunes and power as far as 87 vs 91 goes, but not very much at all. The 87 map is still very fun to drive and has plenty of power available when you need it throughout the power band. Not everyone needs a race truck and if you do, either you bought the wrong truck or you need to hold out for Mat's twin turbo kit.

As for issues, I've now spent many days convinced I have a unicorn. Most of these issues with surging and whatnot are not reported in the MT thread, but that thread has its own reported issues and all the same, I have not experienced the issues reported on either 1.03B or C aside from the hair trigger throttle response that Mat graciously corrected.

In anticipation of receiving my hardware kit (yay!), I figured I'd download the various drivers and apps mentioned in the @OVTune instructions. No problem getting Flash Manager, dongle drivers, dongle registration app, and ODB drivers; however, I am unable to download the pcmflash executable. Google Drive claims that the file contains a virus and that only the file's owner is allowed to download an infected file. This is a Google Drive error, not a Windows anti-virus error. I have Defender turned off and have tried both Chrome and Firefox. Suggestions?

Did you get to PCMFlash through the Flash Manager or through the original version 1 directions (pre-Flash Manager)? I know that if you go to the website's Resources page, 2016 Tacoma instructions, and then reach the yandisk thing that way, I have no problems
