The most you will want to go with the Fox on a 3rd gen is 2" of lift. The ext. travels should have about 2" of thread showing for the max lift and that will put the shock in the sweet spot for both up and down travel.
There is not a big difference in rear between 2 and 2.5 unless you are really pushing the truck, lots of high speed stroke travel for an extended period of time. if you go 2.0, get the adjusters and rr and if you go with a dakar pack, get the part number 985-26-118 which says for 3.5-5.5" of lift for the most travel possible without going shock relocation bracket. i think that's the best bang for your buck with the fox in the rear. you'll want some better bumpstops too, i like wheelers, but there's others like timbrens.

Thank you for the response! I figured it would probably be best to not go to the max on the front coilover. 2.5" seems like it would be plenty of lift, considering I'd probably do the spacer on the driver's side front and rear for the taco lean.

As far as lift in the rear, I'll have to take measurements to see what sort of rake I have now and how I can maintain as close to it as possible post lift. I'm hoping a HS AAL with the overload in would be sufficient.

 

If the bolded is true, then what is the case for buying the extended travel coilovers in the front and new aftermarket UCA's instead of just going with the standard travel ones and OEM control arms?

That rear option is not something I have considered but it does sound intriguing. I like the idea of having the most travel possible. And the 2.0's with RR and adjusters aren't toooooo pricey. Will have to do a bit more researching about the Dakar packs and bump stops too, to see what those do. Thanks also for the response

Extended travel coilovers and a new UCA will give you a little more travel, regardless of where you set the lift height at.
And for the taco lean, you can adjust the front driver side coilover a little higher to compensate, don’t stack a spacer on top.

I have wheelers bumpstops, and I like them a lot.

Yeah, its so much to process and take in lol. There is only so much I can do without some help. Many people have recommended Marie at Headstrong so I will probably talk with her and try and piece together this exact kit and see what sort of deal she can provide since this isn't one of the standard kits they provide.

So bumpstops do what exactly? They help so the leaf spring doesn't flatten out and go the reverse direction? or they provide a little lift to the spring so that it allows for more travel?? For the lean, how would I address it on the rear driver side? Or just adjust the front driver coilover and thats it??

I also have a lead on these Fox shocks that I'm hoping pans out. That would save me a ton of money and I would be able to get the additional pieces with those savings.

 

They stop your suspension from bottoming out on hard impacts and damaging the shock. Some also provide a softer feeling when bottoming out as the stock bumpstops are rock hard.

A Dakar pack usually comes with one spring that has a slightly higher spring rate than the other. One spring will come with a + and the other with a - painted on them. The + will go on your driver side.

Bumpstops are there to make sure when the suspension compresses, metal doesn’t hit metal, and also so the shock isn’t the only thing stopping the compression. The do not provide lift or directly keep the spring in a positive arch.
Basically there to make those “unexpected big hits” a little softer feeling and also reduce the strain put on other suspension components when those hits happen.

 

Ok, so new bump stops will be needed as well! And yes, that Headstrong link does in fact show the setup you mentioned up above @RangerComa. Good to know they do have it as a set and wouldn't need to be pieced together. I guess now I just need to save that last little bit! Or...

They aren’t mandatory as your factory ones will work, but it’s not a bad idea if you got the stuff apart anyhow in my mind.

I didn't use any spacers or adjustments on the front coilovers and my Tacoma doesn't have any driver side lean.

 

Went and got a quote from the only 4x4 shop in my town that really does these sorts of lifts. Was for extended coilover 2.5's with RR in front, 2.0's with RR for up to 1.5" in the rear, an AAL and Fabtech UCAs. Shocks do NOT have the adjusters either. Price was $3,800 for everything with tax, installation and alignment. What do you guys think of that price??? I would obviously be able to save some on installation if I possessed the necessary tools and space, but that is not an option. Only other option would be to find a mod day near me in the Bay Area or Sacramento.

 

Seems high unless that includes parts. I got two quotes from different shops, one was $500 with no alignment, and one was $750 with an alignment. I ended up doing it with help from some TW members.

 

$3800 is way high. I paid a little over $2200 for my Fox's and UCA's. You could buy from @HeadStrong Off-Road too and pay
someone to do the life and I bet you wouldn't be over $3000 total.

Well, the kit that @RangerComa suggested at the top of this page prices out at $3,430, before tax @HeadStrong Off-Road. With tax, I'm looking at a bit over $3,700 and I'd still have to pay for installation. Of course, this kit has the extended travel rear shocks and a brand new Dakar leaf pack, as well as better UCA's and the adjusters on both front and rear shocks, so much better than the quoted kit. The shop I got a quote from today said it would take about 5 hours to do everything and they charge $100/hr so $500 for installation. Plus another $75 for alignment and I'm looking at almost $4,300 at that point. This price could go down of course if I get no adjusters at all, and or no reservoirs in the front...

You have a few more options available since you're a 2nd gen apparently. I tried to price this all out for my 3rd gen at Wheelers but wasn't able to include the AAL, spacer, and I only had two options for UCA's and went with the BDS ones. That's already at just under $2,700, pre tax. So yeah, it'll be well over $3k, especially if I go with the RR's and adjusters front and rear...
