Dumb move of the day. On my way out to the truck this morning to head to work I pick up a bottle of 90 weight gear oil. The bottle still has the pump on it from a change I did on the Jeep. With a little fluid still in the bottle I begin to take the pump off. The bottle slips out of my hand and drops to the floor. Pump still in hand and bottle on floor as a shot of fluid arises from the ground. I am covered in gear oil from face to all my clothing. As I rush to the bathroom to clean up and change clothing I realize how much I hate the smell of gear oil. Cleaned up my face and changed clothing. I still have the faint smell that will linger with me today. Ugh!

Keep an eye out for gently used 2nd gen suspension parts or armor for me. My friend has been rocking a spacer lift for almost 300k since 2007. He’s getting the flame replaced this week. Then he’s buying a DD and going to learn to wheel. Asked me to keep an eye out for deals on parts. Trying to get him on here.

Evreytime I work with that shit I have a spill of epic proportions. Hell the last time I went wheeling (AOP with these guys) I had an entire bottle of that shit burst in my tool box. My trucks been leaking gear lube out of the tool box, down the bed and down the frame rails since the fall in my garage. My previous tool box I had the same thing happen, except it mixed with a bottle of anti seize that also burst open. I could never clean that stuff out of my tool box.

When I did my diffs for the first time, I had a similar accident. It was on me for at least 24 hours. Luckily, it fades over time, or you somehow get used to its stench!

You just go smell-blind to it...there’s no making the stench of gear oil go away :bananadead: Dumped a whole quart in the cab of the Tacoma a couple years ago...now it’s just a part of the cab’s natural smell

Or atf. I also have epic spills with that shit as well.

I could never go smell blind to gear lube. Jet-a on the other hand, I HATED the way that stuff smelled at first but ended up liking it. I think part of it was the more I smelled that fuel, that means the more money we were making.

I guess i am a little immune to ATF I don't think that is bad. I was a mechanic for 16 yrs or so. I grew up around race tracks so smelling C16, Methanol, etc was always a good smell to me.

When I was racing bikes, Honda had a deal with Turbo Blue gas. Loved the smell of it mixed with Belray synthetic 2-stroke oil. Exhaust smell was very sweet.

I used a premix fuel forgot what brand it was haven't had a dirt bike sadly in almost 18 yrs. But it smelled good too. I like the 2 stroke smell probably got that hook from fishing before outboards went to 4 stroke
