I had no vibrations at all prior to this. A little shutter at take off but my carrier bearing was pretty worn out. I wanted a one piece just to get rid of the carrier bearing. I figured it would be one less thing to replace in the future. As far as I can tell my leaf springs are fine. They’re not sagging, no noticeable axle wrap. I’m sure there’s some but you’ll always have a little bit with leaf springs. I drove 10 miles through town before I hit the highway and everything was going great. No take off shutter and my truck actually felt like it shifted smoother. The whole drivetrain just felt a lot sturdier/smoother, until I hit the highway.

Yeah I honestly have no clue how it didn’t catch on fire. Just glad it didn’t kill anyone in the cars behind me too because there were pieces flying everywhere.

How much carnage to the carrier bearing mounts on the crossmember? And how do you plan on rectifying that?

It’s bent up into the floor on the passenger side and the mounts are smashed. Not sure what I can do besides getting one custom made.

    hm,

    I would

    - go to junkyard with fully charged sawzaw
    - cut that same section off of another tacoma frame
    - removed damage one and weld on the replacement
    - get 2 piece shaft

Costly but I guess its better than buying a 1 piece that will probably blow out again.

If you want to go with the other members recommended shaft shop thats an option too. The current shaft shop couldn't refund some of your for the repairs to the shaft and carrier section? That can go towards a replacement.

They were supposed to order me a Tom Woods this time around. Then I called them back to see what was going on and they told me they were building one to Tom Woods specs. Yeah well they didn’t do that. So I’m gonna call them back today and see if I can get that done. Then if that don’t work I’ll figure out a way to get a 2 piece back on there.

There’s no way I’d sell that shaft to someone if it’s not safe.

first things first, what does "their" warranty cover? If nothing then stop using them. If it covers damage then you have a claim for repairs.

They didn’t say anything about a warranty but they said they’ll work with me to get it going but they’ve been fighting me every step of the way. When it happened I just wanted the gas tank and a new driveshaft (Tom Woods) and we’d call it good. I didn’t think I was asking too much considering the amount of other damage it caused. If they would’ve bought me the Tom Woods after the first time I (most likely) would’ve been good a few weeks ago. Then they wanted to get me a gas tank out of a junkyard. I kind of feel this is my fault a little bit but them being a Driveshaft shop they should’ve known that shaft wasn’t gonna hold up in the first place.

Don't see how this is your fault. Just issues with a drive shaft shop who won't honor a product they built and caused damage to your vehicle.

That’s the only reason I’m still pushing to get this fixed by them. They should’ve known. Every other shop I talked too knew about what size to use.
