Every time I think I have the specifics of the kit worked out, I read another post. I have decided on an OME lift, but still have a few questions regarding some specifics.

Which coils would be best. It is my understanding that one set of coils are 660 lbs, and the rest are 590 with varying lengths. I want to achieve the closest to 3" without having to purchase UCA's at this point in time. I also want to achieve less body roll while maintaining a relatively soft ride. I was thinking about going with the nitro charger tuned for a softer ride, but possibly going with the stronger coils.

I also have decided to go with a dakar leaf pack instead of an AAL. I haul firewood and decent loads from time to time, and have experienced a lot of sag. I would like to upgrade to stiffer leafs, but also don't want to be launched on every bump i hit.

I think it is also important to mention that i plan to run 265/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx (E rated) 10 ply tires after the lift is put on. I know that tire will lead to a rough ride alone, but feel they will last longer than typical mudders.

If anyone can provide any advice on the lift/shock/leaf combo and how it rides after being installed I would appreciate it. Any pictures with the completed lift for comparison would be welcomed as well.

    Buy UCAs.

They cost $400, which is minimal considering the cost of the full kit.

You will need them if you go over 2.5”. You’ll be pissed at yourself if you have to redo the front install (and pay for 2 alignments) because you got cheap.

Plus without a proper alignment youll eat through those expensive tires.

If you want 3” of lift you need to go with the longest coil.
The coils with the heavier spring rates are for armor up front.

As already said if you want to go the full 3 inches you'll want UCA's. If you go 2.5 you can get away without using the UCA's, which is what I did for now.

Approaching 2.5" of lift or more, it is HIGHY recommended that you get UCA's. If not you will spend most of your time on an alignment machine and you will wander at highway speeds.

Do it once and do it right.

I just put 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx on my rig. After correcting the pressure for my truck with the chalk test, I think they ride almost the same as the stock tires as far as the roughness of the ride goes. Wife said she expected to notice a difference, and did not at all.

I did OME 885's for all the armor i put on it, in the future when I get a bumper might need beefer springs. Also did dakar light pack (EL095R) in the back, again with a plate bumper in the future it will get beefed up to the HD pack when needed. No way I could do it all and have to worry about the UCA's holding me back so I did them at same time with SPC LR UCA.

Thanks for the input. I have wanted to put the UCA's on with the initial build because it will save more money and pains in the long run. But my budget is beyond shot as it is. I originally wanted to go with a spacer and blocks, so my $400 build is turning into a $1600 build real quick. This isn't even installed.

Has anyone ran a spacer kit, then switched to an OME kit with dakars? If so, is the difference in a daily driver worth the extra $1200? originally planned on putting that into tires.

Then don’t do the lift until you have the cash.

    Buy once, cry once.

You are pissing away a lot of money to half ass it now. Just hang onto the cash until you have the money to do it all at once.

If you have your priorities straight $400 doesn’t take long to save.

It will be worth it in the long run.

3in of lift would be the 887 coils. As all the wise men before have stated, buy once cry once . Keep saving for the right parts and do it all at once.

While your saving the cash, start reading up on how to install it yourself and you can save further cash that way when the time comes.

And I'll whore out my truck because i took a fresh pic today.

    5100s, 887 coils, JBA UCAs
Fox 2.0 RR w CD adj. And Icon AAL in the rear.

I know you are right. I am just becoming inpatient, but I have put off the spacer kit for 6 months to opt for going with a full suspension upgrade, what is another month or so to do it right.

Very nice truck by the way. 265's or 285's? I like the lift and look pretty much the ratio I am going for.

    So do i! Great versatility!

    265/70r17

One day I'll jump up and join the CMC folks and get 285s. I do keep seeing the skinny 255s and they get me thinkinf also.

That is pretty much the look I'm going for. Right height, level, and tire to wheel ratio.

Icon AAL is that the 1.5"? Is that a single or progressive 3 leaf AAL? How is the ride?

I don't need 285's, but they look really good. Once it is paid off I'll worry about CMC and 285's. For now I just want a capable and comfortable ride.

Progressive 3 piece. I don't have any complaints, but i also don't have much to compare it to either other than stock.

I have the TRD off road stock right now. I can't even sit on the tailgate without it sagging. Have you hauled anything like a load of firewood or comparable since upgrading? I'm trying to decide between dakar regular and heavy duty progressive kits. I have seen a lot of people use the Icon 1.5 though.

I like the idea of the clearance from the 255's but I don't like how skinny they are. How is the performance of the tire? They are pretty expensive in my neck of the woods, but all 10 ply tires are.

The AAL won't increase your payload rating. If your leafs are wore out, adding an AAL will just be a bandaid. Where my truck was only 2 years old when i did the lift, the AAL worked for me (plus it was given to me).

I imagine in a few years I'll go with a full leaf swap in the back.

I just put them on, only 200KM on them so far so I am not sure on performance from my personal experience yet. The reason I got them was because of how highly rated they came from other TW members. Both for length of wear and off road goodness. Yes they were expensive for me as well, compared to say KO2's.

I went 255's for the skinny, it was what I wanted. I love the look of them, and not having to cut anything to fit them helped, just removed the front fender flares.
