People trashed the manual for the first year, until it redeemed itself for being absent of the problems most people have and having a most positive gear ratio. Manuals don’t gear hunt unless you double dose your adderall. That being said, the autos are actually fine according to most, if you just put your fucking foot down.

haha.... TBH, I think the Sport hood scoop would have floated me in the air for an extra 0.5 seconds.

Ejewels you’re super high maintenance. And that’s ok. But put up an avatar at least so you have some character for us to attach to.

So on the off road scene nowadays, pro or amateur... do you see more manuals or autos?

I will assume nobody is a pussy so the ratio of sales directly correlates to the ratio off road, if we’re talking trannies.

3/5 of the vehicles i've owned were MT. I love it. This is more me trying to understand if auto love exists.

Most every vehicle nowadays is auto, on or off road.

Normal people go off road every day. Hunting, fishing, camping, etc. Most have autos. Now, if a bunch of ENTHUSIAST'S go off road, it will be a more even split because, you know, enthusiasts...

OP - you got a Sport DCSB AT - right? Another "thing" the OR has over the sport in the AT is a larger rear-end here the MT is the same. Not sure if it means a damn thing in day to day use, well most likely does not mean a damn thing, but just a tid bit of info

    Correct.

@ejewels have you driven both yet?

FYI you can reconfigure the AT to remove one or both OD gears depending on circumstances. Most of the AT complainers refuse to accept this, want to leave the truck in D and have the truck drive like everything else they've driven in the past. A 6 speed with 2 OD gears does not drive the same as a 5 or 6 speed with only one.

Chose AT because that's all you get with a longbed, I already have a shortbed so I didn't need two.

No problems with the AT after 2 years with it.

Not really, plenty of AT trucks running offroad.

No. It’s just that they make more of them so more of them find their way off road.

Some people swear by auto trans now that new tech is involved. It shifts faster and on a road track it’s probably amazing. Some aren’t comfortable with a manual off road, maybe their coordination sucks, there’s a lot more you need to pay attention to in the dirt/trails. Then there are spec built trophy trucks that have autos that you won’t ever put in your 18 Tacoma. But for a production off road vehicle, a person wanting to be fully involved in the trail, manual is the way to go.

Got it. So on the more serious off road scene, there's a mix and most likely a lot of the enthusiasts still choose MT. But I'd imagine with millennials and all thats changing to be more autos than MT lol.

Another thing about MT is there is no issue with a low fluids in transmission and no need to dance around it to check for the levels like AT, just pop the fill plug and stick your pinky lol

Only have driven AT so far. But I'm a good stick driver from doing it for 20+ years. I drove my dads old 2002 (1st gen?) 4 banger taco and that was fun too... but not that smooth as the GTI!
