My first rescue was a 9yo Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who never had any issues with me, or my ex-wife but was aggressive around other dogs and with other men. We didn't find this out until I had my brother over a few weeks after she was adopted and she went apeshit on him. Neither one of them got hurt, but it was scary as hell. We spent a lot of time working with her and by the time she passed at 18yo, she was the sweetest girl and if you were told about her past, you'd likely have thought it was another dog.

Tia was found in a field and taken to a kill shelter. She was disheveled, scared and hated people. I got her right before they put her down, definitely wouldn't have been a dog someone would have picked. I think more often than not it's irresponsible owners surrendering good dogs

Dammit, now I wish I had a dog! But my lease won't allow any dogs, which is how we ended up with a bird and two cats in the first place...

I think 99% of dogs, if someone is willing to give them a chance is going to turn out awesome. Some people just don't want to put in that work.

Wow, great job rehabilitating her and saving her from that! I can only imagine the patience it took to form some trust with her and to get her to socialize again.

I 2nd rescuing. There are so many that need a home. I guess if you're dead set on a particular breed go to a breeder. But you get no guarantee with those either. IMO and experience rescued dogs are super great full and loving. I also like whoever said above to get a little older dog from a shelter. Everyone wants puppies so they stay a really long time at shelters. If you find one who's already housebroken and knows basic commands you'll just have to do some finishing work with them which will also help bond.

Rescuing is the way to go IMO.

You can also use services like petfinder.com to help find a specific breed from a shelter/rescue nearby. I got my first boy though a rescue associated with them, and when I was looking at getting my second, I turned to the same rescue again.

On the dog conversation, if you do t have the time and are not willing to make the sacrifices, then please don't get a dog.

Rescue or shelters are a crap shot, some will be thrilled and know you saved them, and you will not find a more loyal friend. Others, well lets just say with work and hope, things will get better. Our last dog was brought up on the Dixie dog express, and he would have given his life for us.

Breeders, kind of like name brands, you go to them thinking you know exactly what you will get, but some times the brand just isn't right.

I like the idea of volunteering at a shelter, do this for a while and then decide if your willing to make the sacrifices.

not a real XSP-x. missing the correct flares, it has the wrong wheels (could have just been changed out), and missing the hood scoop. Not sure what else they came with
