How much are you paying for your 2018 Tacoma?

New here from a little while back but haven't posted much but thought I would offer you some good reading material to help swing a good deal.

I used these principal recently although not the best time in the month to buy I was successful in getting my targeted OTD price of $35000 (Actually $34580 after $500 Toyota rebate) to include all fee's and taxes. This was on a 2017 DCSB 4X4 OR package with security system, black out kit and step rails as the options and a MSRP of $38,626.

I go in the morning to pick up. As Invoice prices and MSRP have moved closer together over the last 20 years as Clark explains it is next to impossible to truly know "true invoice". The consumer buying guides (KBB,True car, Edmunds, NADA, ETC...) ARE ALL IN THE BACK POCKET OF THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY and are paid through them to funnel and convince buyers of what "Fair Market Values" are.

Anyway take a read and see if he's not spot on.

 

Sounds like what I've always expected. Even still, are the invoice prices in these threads including the 995 fee or not? I'm assuming not as to how low they seem. Also, as said in the article and by my dealer buddy.... all invoices for each vehicle are different. So still not sure where they get an invoice price on here unless its an average.

Is that MSRP the total msrp including the 995 I take it?

Nice. When you say "plus tax, title, license and registration" that is NOT included in the 35379 correct? So it was NOT 35379 OTD? Best I've done so far is 34,701 down from 37,414 msrp.

 

Correct I paid ~$37648 out the door, 5% tax here in Iowa

 

Do you happen to know the invoice price of your truck?

 

So you paid about 300 under invoice. Not bad. What I still don't get, is if you loot at our trucks (I'm getting same, only minus a few add ons) the general invoice is about 33,5. But in your example its 35,647. So I'm thinking the orginal invoice numbers listed here are low.

 

My guess is that that is based off of cab, transmission, and bed length.

 

Not really, because you can select those things and it still showed as 33,5-ish. I do know that each invoice for a specific truck is different though.

 

If you look at the base price in the NADA picture I posted that is around $34k, but doesn't include any options or delivery fee.

 

Can I do the same with my truck sticker? Just go on NADA and find these numbers?

 

Go to www.NADAguides.com and select the year, make, model, trim, and options and it will give you that information. The combination of those things give the same invoice and MSRP for every vehicle that matches that information. If my truck were being sold in Colorado, or Texas, or any where else in the U.S. the invoice price and MSRP would be the same, as would the destination fee. Don't include California in that because only God knows what the People's Republic of California does.

 

Just did this, thanks! So when comparing the invoice price of a vehicle, the final bolded price at the bottom under invoice column is the "invoice" price people are comparing to? After options and destination fee.

 

My dealer won't go below invoice. Also, I'm noticing 3 dealers all said their invoice was 5-600 higher than what NADA says. Any ideas why?

 

Thousands in hidden profit are earned by the dealership selling at invoice.Plenty of suckers are willing to pay over invoice making it difficult for the rest of us to pay fair market value.

 

Exactly and not to mention the hidden dealer incentives. These guys aren't selling these for $2k below invoice and staying in business.

 

I wasn't too concerned about invoice price when I purchased mine. I was more concerned with market value; this is probably the best metric to look at and changes depending on where you are located.
