so just to be clear im not a mechanic so some of this is new to me. Two months ago i installed bilstien 5100 all around with 888 coils in front and 2.5 blocks in back. Didnt do aal b/c of budget Now afterwards, i was presented with the issue of axle warp if i use blocks bigger than 1”. While i do understand the concept of axle warp, how do i know if i am affected? What are symptoms? And should i be worried and change out to aal asap? Seems fine under normal conditions but not sure as to how long i can keep it this way without permanenlt screwing up my truck

I was driving on the highway uphill under sorta icy condition on 2wd and when i steped on the gas, it seemed to shoot me sideways. You know those trucks that are driving diagonal sorta. It was like a major alighnment problem. Of course i put it in 4wd and resumed normal driving but got me freaked as i had to throw on the hazards and steer to the right just to go straight. Is this a symptom of axl warp.

I dont do much off roading besides snow packed nieghborjood alleys and streets

Just looking for some advice thnx

That's just your ass busting loose on ice...

Axle wrap will be a vibe when accelerating or braking.
Sometimes a thud/clunk after stopping; the spring unloads, the pinion rotates up and slip joint slams forward.

It's there even on a stock truck. Lift blocks exaggerate it and fatigue the spring quicker.

Ok sounds about right. Any reason why it tends to bust in the same direction and not the other

I guess if the lift blocks some how caused your rear thrust angle to shift....
But, if it drives straight otherwise, it shouldn't have anything to do with your lift blocks.

If you get wheel hop on a surface that has sections of slipping and traction, that is related to axle wrap.

If the surface is consistently slippery, axle wrap is less of a problem; not enough traction to overcome the springs.

^^^ That sounds and feels like a basketball rolling around in the truck bed. Your rear AAL upgrade would have TCO'd that for ya had you spent the coin.. and also would have made for a much tighter road feel maybe even helped keep your rear wheels down in contact with pavement during snowy conditions too..

I don't have that problem. AAL was like 2 hundy for the 3 pack! I was the same amount of work as a block so same labor.

Axle *wrap* just FYI. Warp would be completely different, basically a bent axle.
Your situation sounds like lack of traction and the truck rear end kicking out on you. Trucks are light in the rear end, sounds typical of winter driving of a truck in 2wd.

Agreed. Has to do with the direction in which your drive shaft spins
