I figure it should work fine with slots cut into it. Arms distance away when you reach for door handle sensor. Either way it would prob be more work than it's worth to bend the metal together.

Making stuff is cool no doubt there. But coming from someone that has the Lexus key, it’s well worth the cost. One of my favorite mods.

Key goes in my wallet. Never have to get it out or remember to grab it. :)

I went ahead and submitted some files to be printed for a fit check. I'll improve on it and keep everyone updated. Should be here by next week

slight update to round the sides and beef up the side walls a bit as recommended by the printer I'm using.

im totally for this also. i dont like having things in my pocket other than my wallet. just like the OP said, a $200 alternative is far from a solution in my book.

i have a janitor caribeaner to hold my fob and swiss army key holder thing.

subbed to see where this goes.

I'm going to play around with the one I ordered and see what kind of improvements can be made to it. If it fit checks ok, I'll work on weather sealing and different options for carrying it. By the current design it'll work with an 18mm x 1mm strap. If I made all the attachment options integral to the "lid", it'll make it easily configurable for belt clip, key ring, strap, and pretty much any other way you can think of carrying it.

I actually chose the cheapest possible printing material and shipping I could find so I'm guessing the first one isn't going to be durable at all, but I'm looking forward to getting it and seeing how it looks.

Honestly the way the price structure is scaled, and if there's enough interest, Price + shipping can be as low as $5 a pop configured any way you want it. It really all depends on the material, print quality, and my kitchen table engineering.

What material? For something that take daily use, it needs to be robust. I wouldn't trust PLA. ABS MAYBE. Are you getting it SLS printed? Should have hit me up, I could do a test print for ya.

Here's another iteration...simple and straight forward. I might ditch the tile idea and go ahead and test print this guy. Maintains all factory components and seal, just swap the cover!

I like this. Gets rid of the key. When you print it I'd like to see it next to the OEM fob.

Here's a couple views that may provide a little perspective vs. the factory fob.
