Thanks guys, the sales tax thing I never really thought about. Noel, when it comes to offers from the dealer on trade in's is there any haggling on that, can I ask for more or do they stand firm on their offers?

Something else to keep in mind is that you'll want to confirm with your dealer that the price you'd pay on the new vehicle wouldn't change if you opted not to trade. Sometimes they use part of the profit they're planning on making on your trade to justify a decrease on the price of the new vehicle. Take the trade (and that added profit) away and they may change their offer on the new one. :notsure:

You can always ask for more, and should. They're trying to get as much out of the deal as possible, same as you. When I bought my current ride I ended up walking out of the dealership because they weren't willing to give me what I wanted for my trade (17k). They called me later that week and said they could do it if I was still interested.
Bastards then put it on their lot for $22K, which was more than I'd paid for it 3 years previously

When I was looking at trading in my 2004, they initially offered me $500. I eventually got them up to like $2000. But I ended up selling to private party for $7000. FWIW

Probably get more from parting out what you can. I'm sure tons of us are willing to buy parts from ya.

You can definitely haggle on the trade in. I went to some of the smaller lots that buy cars to get prices. They were all close, I got the dealer to add another 1k onto his offer

I'd look at what you'd be saving on sales tax by trading. Might be easier option and not cost you that much money after tax savings

@ERMB Don't say "Can you do this price" when you haggle, though. Tell them "I want this price"
If they think that you're uncertain they'll just shut you down. Do your homework before you go in; find out what your truck books for, see if they've got anything similar to yours on the lot and what it's priced at, see what competing dealers are asking for similar trucks (both theirs and yours), etc.

I may just part it out then and trade it. If I could get them to come up another 1-2K I'd be very happy with the offer. Then just pass on my goodies to my TW peeps!:D

Unless you have a harcore modded truck like on tons or full LT caged I don’t think mid travel and bumpers add much value in resale I’d say take 25% of however much you’ve sunk into and add that to the stock value but even then it’ll be tough 90% of Tacoma owners just want a reliable vehicle. Best bet is to sell as a stock vehicle then part out all aftermarket stuff imo

I see the POWs already replied. The underground is attempting to hold the enemy off from crossing the Housatonic.
