What is this metal can thing to the left of the brake hardware with the yellow stickers on top? It may be specific to Off Road models.

The whole thing is the Hydraulic brake booster assembly.
In particular, the can with all the warnings is a hydraulic accumulator (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_accumulator). (Like a household well pump tank), It stores high pressure brake fluid, that the system can then use to operate brakes without turning on the hydraulic pump constantly. It will provide a specific flow at high pressure before the pressure drops too low and the hydraulic pump must turn back on to recharge it.

I believe the toyota one is charged with a high pressure gas charge with a piston or diaphram separating the gas and the brake fluid, but never tore into one.

I'm glad I didn't remove the 'can' to drain it like I was thinking!!! Had something similar on my diesel that collected water that was in the fuel.

Wait until you have to replace it when it fails...1200 bucks.
I'll stick with the good ole vacuum booster set-up.

Enjoy your squishy ass half powered brakes compared to the firm proper brakes of the superior electric boosted master cylinder setup. 2x the line pressures at the same pedal pressure.

Every time i get in a taco with a vacuum boosted setup i understand why people complain about the shitty brakes of the tacoma.

Pedal feel does not equate to quality of the brakes. If they're strong enough to lock your wheels up/engage ABS they aren't your limiting factor.

People complain about their brakes because their lives are boring and they have nothing better to do than complain about trivial shit.
