Dang, been quite awhile since I made a thread asking for advice...

Well I am in the process of upgrading my audio system in my truck (05 ECLB)

I'm definitely gonna replace the head unit at some point, but here is my current setup:

    Kenwood DBX500bt, JL C1-690x 2-way 6x9's and stock rear 6.5"s

The tweeters blew before I got the truck as best I can tell.

Essentially I have concluded that a component setup is best but I already have the JL 2-ways and am wondering what 6.5's and tweeters would work well with them. I was thinking of doing component 6.5's with tweeters in the front doors and moving the 6x9's to the back doors (somehow). I had also planned to do a 4 channel on the rears and front lowers and tweeters. And at some point do a 10 or 12" sub with its own mono amp (farther down the road, not really my concern right now).

TLDR: I have 2 way 6x9s up front - what component tweeters and 6.5"s would work with those? Should I move the 6x9's to the back?

Aftermarket stuff I have right now:
    6x9's https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13699045/JL-Audio-C1-690x.html?avf=Y

    Head unit http://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/receiver/dpx500bt/

Here's some stuff I was looking at for the 6.5"s and tweeters

i got my stuff from Mr. Marv. I cant remember what brand they are, but he would know for sure. What I can say, is that they absolutely pound! I was shocked at the amount of bass I was getting out of them, considering theyre just 6.5" components. I highly recommend those speakers and Mr. Marv for advice and service. GL

I would most definitely look at Euphoria from DB Drive. I have the ES9 component set in the front and the ES7's in the rear of my '15 Dbl cab and they are absolutely amazing. Smooth crisp highs, crazy good mid bass and excellent power handling. http://euphoriacaraudio.com/

OP the stock "tweeters" in 2nd gen Tacomas are really small full ranges. To replace the stock tweeter with a real tweeter; you will have to put in a x-over or blocking caps up front.

    agreed

Here's my setup, if it helps to give you ideas. I would get rid of the 2 ways, but if you have to keep them, I'm sure most tweeters with will work. You'll just need a crossover.

    DDX393 Excelon

CS Series CSS69 front (tweeter is CS Series CST20)
PPS4-6 rear doors (with RF PP4-x)
    all powered by pbr300x4

    JL Audio 10TW1-2 sealed
    powered by Clarion XC2110

I have the prime R1675-s in my jeep. They are ok but I like the Punch series better.

Here’s the setup I run in my ‘15:
    Pioneer NEX-4200 head unit
    Euphoria F4100 amp
Euphoria ES9 components in the front
Euphoria ES7-60 coaxials in the rear
Subs are a pair of the new dbDrive Competition 6.5” WDX6.5G2-4’s in a custom ported enclosure.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm fairly set on keeping the 2-ways since I just got them for christmas. I've sorta decided that the 6.5's in the rears wont really give me any more powerful sound since I dont have an amp. I'm now considering two 10's with a mono amp and doing tweeters in the front doors while leaving the rear 6.5's stock for now.
Here's what I am currently looking at.
    AMP https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500MRVM500/Alpine-MRV-M500.html
    10's https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500W10S4/Alpine-W10S4.html
    Tweeters w/crossover https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13699049/JL-Audio-C1-100ct.html

I am now, I wasn't before. I have realized upgrading the rear 6.5's without an amp wont really be an improvement and even with an amp 6.5's aren't gonna kick like 10's would so I have shifted my budget to two 10's an amp and tweeters.

I would amp the fronts first (along with rear 6.5's), before adding a sub...but thats just how I usually progress. Might sound odd with the sub, if the fronts are not amp'd.

Here’s what I did for what it’s worth, I kept stock head unit and installed Kicker 6x9 3-way in front lower doors, Memphis 1 inch tweeters in front upper,Memphis 6.5 2-ways In back doors and a Kicker 4 channel 300x4 amp. Sounds amazing with plenty of base and volume.

How do you have your tweeters wired? I can always upgrade my 6.5's at some point, but for the money Im leaning towards subs right now. I figured I could do the tweeters off the head unit and do the subs and 6x9's off the amp?

To be honest with you, I had local shop do it so I really don’t know. I’m pretty sure that the factory front and tweeters were a component set up with crossovers.

What kinda bass you looking for, deep rich rumble, or just enough to even out the sound?

Not entirely sure. So far I think I'm gonna build a sealed box.
