I had my 2010 frame inspected by Toyota and checked out ok (1/17/18). They had it in the following week for descaling and undercoating, free rental 2018 Dogde 1500 for week. I went to change oil on 3/6/18 and got a good look at the underneath. It looks like they they did a great job on coverage, but it's still wet to the touch. Is
this normal? Is this undercoating as I remember it to be or some other rust inhibitor?

Look inside the frame with a borescope. You can get them for under $15 that attach to your phone.

If they didn't do inside the frame well, that's where it will continue to rust.

Several reports around here of Toyota 'treated' frames that eventually failed anyway, so you need to check behind them.

My '01 took forever to dry and was still tacky for years. It would get on your hands if you grabbed the frame.

Thanks to all that replied. Even with all its recalls, when the time comes I buy a new one.

My 2007 was undercoated previously by Toyota. This past November it failed and I now have a new frame

Yep. Jeez. I owned my 2000 from 2014 to 2018. It was undercoated before I got it, and that crap got EVERYWHERE. It got all over my hands, all over my clothes, hair, etc. It never dried even the day I sold it. It was slightly less tacky, but I think that might be because I wiped so much of it off the frame with my hair and the back of my jacket :/

The stuff they are using on the 2nd gens looks a lot different though.

    Pics for comparison:

2nd gen truck, above, recently coated. Must have been done less than ~7 days before picture was taken. My 2000 Tacoma frame never looked that glossy or 'wet', but I don't know how long it was sprayed before I got it.

Pictures of the frame on my old 2000, above. Taken in October 2017. Looks a bit 'drier', but always looked like that, and was still tacky.

Do you get under your truck to see what you got or had before it was coated?
Don’t trust the dealer although it sounds like they the job properly. I got mine back the same day but had kept it up myself. I parked on the lawn because it dripped for 3 days.
You should have until the in service date 2022 I’d think.
But Toyota wrought me off after coating my 08. Even though I’d told them I did not want their uncoating if it did not extend warranty like the first gens.

They didn't say anything about extending warranty until '22. I think in many cases, they think make it look nice and they'll go away. Now I wish I had taken some photos, I've done all work to the truck since it was new and did notice an unusual amount of rust,
but living in upstate I figured it was normal. Take a wait in see attitude. I did like the suggestion of checking out the inside of the frame with a cable cam. Great Idea !
