"The company's Digital Light system not only can brighten the road ahead without blinding other drivers, but it can project information directly onto the road. It's sort of like a heads-up display (HUD) for asphalt.

During the demonstration after the Frankfurt auto show Toepfer explained that the car's sensors and software can determine when and where to illuminate based on road conditions and traffic. The system uses a high-resolution lighting module with three high-powered LED. Those lights are focused on a DLP chip with a million micro-mirrors that have two positions: on or off. With all those tiny mirrors, Mercedes was able to produce far crisper images than the 84 LEDs found in the current S-Class headlamp. The system has a high enough resolution you could play a movie (although in black and white) with it like a personal drive in theatre"

Has anyone done the Morimoto d2s 4.0 retro? I read someone on here got them but I didn't see if they ever got around to the install.

 

Do I have to remove the diffuser that comes with the halo rings? Or just put it inside the other diffuser?
Also did you guys trimmed the diffuser so it won’t stuck out that much?

I already opened the two headlights and painted everything


(The headlight on the photo is the extra one i have). I wanted to see how the amber lens would look. I love it.

I like the amber sheet in the marker light. I’m looking to do the same. Any pro tips for success?

 

I think the most important is to take your time.
I used a piece of paper to get the dimensions of the “grill” for the turn signals then I cut the acrylic and heated it with a heat gun until it was soft then I put it over the “grill” to give it the form.

 

@chuymoreno looks great! The amber turn cover lens is a cool idea. It helps mask the chrome without sacraficing light output.

 

It really is a good idea! I used VHT nightshade and it really helps the amber blend with the black color without sacrificing the functionality of the turn signal

 

I love the acrylic. Used it in my tail light build as well to go over all the LEDS

 

Just ordered my 3rd set of headlights. Like someone said, 3rd times a charm. They will be very similar to these but have a few MGM highlights, Angry halos and possibly a turn signal bucket screen?
RX350 with Sti-R lens
Switchback DRL and Halos
D2S 5500k with powerhouse igniters
Smoked side marker
Wiring harness

Anything else I'm forgetting?

Are you just blacking out the high beam bucket for display only?
Satin, matte, flat black?
I think you're on the right track!

 

Yes the high beam bucket will be empty and matte black. Going a little different with MGM highlights but of course it will still be dark. Same paint scheme as these only MGM and only 1 projector. Hoping to still use turn signal bucket as possibly a marker light or still turn signal with the screen.

Looks like everyone has been doing flat/matte. Anyone done gloss to better replicate the pro headlight?

 

I painted an extra headlight I have with gloss black it came out really good, but to be honest I think it looks better with satin black
