Yesterday morning 8am i drop the truck off to get the transmission TSB, rear leaf TSB and my door weather stripping replace..3pm comes and i get a call saying the tech "dropped" my mirror on my door and he scratched it. I go down there and i see about 6 DEEP gauges out of my door.. So now its in the body shop. If i am not happy with the repair what are my options? They did give me a 2010 4runner limited which i have been beating the piss out of for 12 hours know..truck is fun!

    Very mature.

Im sure it will turn out fine. If not, you make them fix it again and continue to have fun in the 4runner.

just be calm if the repair isn't up to your standards and explain that it needs to be done again.

It's funny how people nowadays get so upset when their trucks are scratched. I grew up in a farming community where trucks were treated as, well, trucks.

The first thing I did after getting my '06 was to take it on a drive on a brushy trail of the type I'd eventually have it on hunting anyway. Of course, it got a few scratches but then I no longer worried about them.

Toyota's rep has taken a hit as of late but in the past it hardly mattered what your paint looked like when it came to resale, unless you were rich enough to trade in your truck every three years or so.

My brother had a 4-Runner he bought used that went through a Kansas hailstorm and came out looking like a troop of monkeys had taken ball-peen hammers to it. The insurance company wanted to total it so he just took the money, and then sold the truck to some guys who wanted a trail vehicle for more than he originally paid for it.

Accidents happen. If the scratch didn't get through the primer then it's no big deal.

Unfortunately times have changed. People like to buy trucks for minor use and will never put the trucks through some of the stuff that you have done. So I can see why people get upset.

Also, if I scratched it myself I wouldnt me so mad. But since it was someone else I understand. Im pretty sure if I accidently dropped a steel chain on your hood and scratched it up you would be mad too and make me want to fix it. If not, i'll be right over.

Do I get to keep the chain? :)

    None yet! It's new!
There's not much you can do - they're doing their best to make it right.

A couple of years ago I took a Jeep Grand Cherokee to the dealer for some work. They proceeded to let some kind of motorized gate ram into the front quarter... and it required a new hood, fender, supports for the radiator and a bunch of other stuff. Nothing I could do but let them fix it. They did a good job... but I sold the Jeep and bought an FJ Cruiser.

Make sure you don't take your truck home until your satisfied with it. Be stern with them if they are not doing what they can to make you happy. Everything will work out

Difference between you driving your 06 offroad and a tech dropping a mirror down the door is that YOU put the pinstripes there. I get angry at myself when I ding my truck or do something stupid- but it's MY truck and MY stupid. When someone else does it- Whole different ball game. Additionally- Offroading comes with risks to paint and body. Repairs at the dealer come with risk to wallet but not usually paint or body.

Looks like he musta dropped it and tried to catch it too.

Hope they get it fixed up to your liking!!
