ok guys so i have dilemma lol, i got 4 5100 bilstein shocks rear and front, and i wanna lift my 2018 tacoma trd off road,
One guys that works ar ORW is telling me i need a different rear shock thats not for the standard tacoma and then put aaleaf to clear 285 tires. That i need to return the resr shocks i got and get the longer ones,

Guy at 4 wheel parts is telling
Me that guys on crack and that they do this to dealerships all the time and that 285 can be cleared w iut even lifting truck, hes telling me if i wanna lift the truck not just level to set the front to 2.5 and then for the back to buy a block set with U bolts, and that would lift and level my truck

Whose right? Or what do i do?
My goal is to lift the truck 2.5-3” all around not just level and eventually in a few weeks get 285/75/16 AT

My first truck im super new to all this, such a noob u can say i didnt even know what off road was 3 weeks ago ahah (joke)

We've all started at this moment one point or another man. There are tons of install guides for that exact setup, but it comes down to the fact you'll be level in the front with your coils, your rear shocks will be fine if you don't lift the back( shocks don't lift your truck) and you will rub your front tires slightly so you will have to trim a little bit.

They are both right, but the guy at ORW is telling you how to get a real lift, that will ride well and the guy at 4 wheel parts is telling you how to do a cheap shitty leveling job, and with 5100s on highest setting will probably ride very stiff and I doubt you will want that on a brand new truck.

Nice truck by the way, cement color is awesome.

So if i wanna lift the truck in general back and front not just level it, i should keep the 5100 i got for the rear and buy the blocks? To level the back?

Thanks so much for the advice

If you lift the back the shocks won't be long enough. If you lift the front only your truck will be level( no stinkbug look)

Ahh i see so its not recommended putting the 5100 at the highest? Or just not with blocks? Thanks!

You can do it, it just will be at the sacrifice of ride quality. The back is separate from the front, so that really doesn't matter. When you set the Bilsteins on the highest setting, you are just compressing your spring more to provide the "lift" or extra height in the front. This creates a more harsh ride. For the back, most people on here will steer you away from blocks and suggest an AAL instead.

It is your truck, but personally, if I paid that much for a brand new TRD OR, I would spend a little more money and do new springs paired with new shocks in the front, and an AAL or new leaf pack in the back. Do a search on here for lifting 3rd gens, you will find a wealth of information. Also, keep in mind if you hit 3", you may have some alignment issues without also doing new UCAs.

Check out the kits at headstrong offroad, or ask Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road for some help.

Best way is to get new springs and new shocks for the front - the springs do the lifting.
For rears you need the 3 leaf progressive AAL and the new shocks.

You will have your lift at the height you wanna be AND the ride will be pretty close to what you have now just taller and a bit tighter in turns and off road mighty fine.

The labor is pretty much the same .. blocks are bull shit way to lift your truck and ride suffers. Do it right the first time and you will be much happier.

Call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road as mentioned ... she hooked a lot of us up and ask is there's a taco world discount too... Also get the springs and shocks pre-mounted saves a little install labor (fronts) its an option.

I think the total not counting labor around $800-$900 including ship and mounting springs... should cost about $3 hundy for install give or take. Gotta good friend that turns wrenches + cash should be on the low end of 3 Franklins maybe a little less.

No problem. Also have her check the part numbers on the bilsteins you already have, you may already have the right ones and just need coils and AAL

My first shot was the 5100's around and blocks. From ORW. After about a year of mostly daily driving I decided I didn't like the blocks and went back to ORW and got AALs. When I picked up the truck from ORW the guy said, "Good thing we did this. Both blocks were cracked."

If you do bilsteins all around and new coils in the front, will you sit level? Also what if you did just a single add a leaf? Would like to get a little more clearance in the back but I would like to be level still... thanks for any help @HeadStrong Off-Road ?? 2017 sr5 dblcab 4x4

Great info as I looking to do a lift but keep the soft stock ride characteristic. Thanks
