Chains work if there is a solid base below the snow, as long as it isn't too deep before you hit it.
They work better on ice also.

Ah. True, as long as the snow isn't too deep. Chains would've helped on parts of the road we were on, but not all of it. Digging down too far just puts your axles and skids on the snow; then you're stuck, chains or no chains. Better to run low psi and try to stay on top.

Chains still work pretty good in the deep snow. Kind of like paddles.

I’ve been in some deep snow with all four tires chained up. Aired down too.

Went to jump out and sunk up to my chest...

It was a lot wetter snow though than what we saw out of this last storm. It packed down pretty well.

Fun trip back in 2011 :anonymous:

chains can help, but also add more stress to the tires if you don't keep off the skinny pedal.
bigger tires and aired down with good off road tread works the best, and keep moving forward. sucks when you have to stop only to know its going to suck trying to get moving again.

IMG_2003.jpg Well, hit MET on Sunday and looked for other Yahoos here. Once getting past the plebeians at the beginning of the trail, it wasn't nearly the shit show I was expecting. Was on 146.460, didn't hear a peep.

Anybody else get fresh tracks Friday or Saturday?IMG_1992.jpg

    Nice.

I was at Dodge Friday and Sunday. About as bottomless as you can get :bananadance:

A few of us were there Sunday. Should have told us in advance and you could have joined up

Although it looks like you had plenty of fun without us

Would have hooked up before going but wasn't planning on going at all. The Sunday when I was passing by on way home from south lake I thought, screw it. I'll check it out. I'd like to hit UTC sometime and MET again on the front end of a 6" dump for more trail blazing. But then again, that's also when I want to be shredding the gnar on my snowboard.

It's day light savings on the 11th. Just thought you could leave an hour earlier.

All that traction! ...plus the 4 tons your old dinky rear end was trying to move.
