Their are Automotive Aftermarket Manufacturers that have and will reman electronics. Once OE stops producing many electronics which they are only mandated to do for 10 years...than look for reman! The challenge, will we even be driving in 10 years....or will we be transported by AI?

Manufacturers are required to make x amount of spare parts to cover warranty claims and what not, spare parts won't be that hard to get. I work at a Toyota power train plant and worked in 5spd gear machining, for build out of the model we had to make so many extra parts before the line shut down.

Based on the responses, i think many people read the title but not the meaning behind the post.

I agree. I want to keep this truck 12-13 years. I would expect the navigation and stereo to be completely obsolete and impossible to replace or fix. It's unfortunate.

They are pretty much impossible to fix now and do it cost effectively. If these units are hardened and potted effectively, and I'm sure they are, they will last as long as the truck. Toyota will sell a version of this for a long time. If all else fails, the junkyard will have what you need. If that fails, the aftermarket will be able to replace it. No worries.

I'm sure it will be obsolete but not impossible to replace, I bet you can get a radio for a 2005 or 2006 still, maybe on eBay and maybe remanufactured but could still be found. He'll I think most Toyota infotainment stuff is about obsolete when you buy it, they haven't kept up with technology as fast as other manufacturers, in my opinion.

The 05 could be easily swapped out with aftermarket. So that would create another solution, and also many unit's in circulation because people went with aftermarket.

I'm tempted to swap mine now I have a Sony android auto head unit in the garage, but don't feel like rewiring the factory Mic and don't want to use Sony one.

That's the point with the current trucks. If you can't swap it out and it dies out of warranty, you're out whatever the dealer decides to charge for it. I bet it's $4k or more. Resale will plummet.

Have you really had nav units lock up? Exactly how many? I have never EVER heard of a nav unit going completely south. Yes, they need updates once in a while, and YES, they are super annoying to use and I usually just go to my phone, but nav units in my family cars from back in early 2000's are still going strong.

Many of these new entune units. I've seen all forms, siennas, highlanders, tacos, tundras. They are quite expensive but usually covered under basic warranty.

Do you have a list or data on these "many" that failed? Curious.

Nope I just change them, I'm a tech for Toyota. They are the weak point currently and Toyota is even issuing new protocols for handling them.

In ten or so years the warranty will be long since gone on the current Toyotas.....

If the ambient air temp is below 40*, more often than not my entune system only comes on with am, fm and sat radio available when I start the truck. Nothing else works/ is available. After about 5 min it will reboot, then most of the other features are recognized. I leave a stick in the USB with music. Sometimes it's recognized, sometimes it's not. Unplug, plug back in and it usually picks up on the last song played.
The dealership did an update yesterday to supposedly fix the issue. It didn't.
