What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Did 5-lug 2WD Auto's ever use the A340E or was it exclusively the A43D? I know 2nd gen 5-lugs use the A340E.

 

Yeah pretty sure they got a340 after like 97 or so.

 

The A43D was a holdover from the 22re 2wd pickups and was eventually phased out entirely.

 

Added some ditch lights with some rango brackets

 

Totally confused now. Looking on Copart for 1st gen 5-lugs with the 2RZ and it's actually the A44D and not the A43D. I could have sworn I have seen them both.

 

Okay totally clueless now. Look at these VIN stickers off Copart. One is a 2004 and one is a 1997. The 2004 has the A44D and the 1997 has the A43D. What the hell is the difference?

 

Why are you looking for that on CoPart, should be nearly free on local CL.

 

Just look up the transmissions online, should be able to list all the differences.

 

I use Copart to compare trucks since they take so many pictures and have hundreds of different trucks. I'm just trying to gather transmission information for a write-up I'm doing.

I think I figured it out. The A43D was in 1995-2000 5-lugs and was exclusively column shift. The A44D was in 2001-2004 5-lugs and was exclusively floor shift.

Does anyone know the part number for the gaskets that goes between the transfer case and the shifter?

 

I didn't know it either and ended up buying gasket paper and using the hammer trick to cut it out :/

I bought it that way. It was off of that 98 regular cab 4cylinder truck.

 

Installed pioneer avh2300nex head unit today. Ps android auto is the SH$@!

Quick searching hasn't yielded results, but you could either try RTV or do what this member did and make your own.
