    Lockers don't help unless you're spinning a tire, and the whole point is to not spin. Ever. Go super easy on the throttle. If it starts to slip, back off. If you come to a stop, back up and try again with more momentum. A couple weeks ago I was breaking trail for a dude on 40s because he couldn't do that. The snow was over my headlights, and i could get maybe 15 or 20 feet at a time. And if I let it spin at all i had to get pulled backward.

    what is your favorite everyday tire that is good in snow? I know you've said you don't want a tire that cleans out the snow from the lugs.

    I've been most impressed with KO2s. If you want much better you've got to have a brand new mud terrain, I think Tryxus mt for the small ones and either irons or orbs for big tires. But they have to be brand new.

    And wiping is awesome. One of the most impressive rigs ive seen has 47" ltbs siped with a skip saw.

    I agree with the KO2s for everyday pretty damn decent in snow. They're not Blizzaks, but for every once and a while and if you only want one tire all year, they're great. Take a look at where Tire Rack ranks them. Top of the list, and great on snow

    I should specify for snow wheeling. Blizzaks (as far as I know) don't have a size that is conducive to running super low pressure. On hiway snow and ice, the blizzaks absolutely win.

    What do you think of the 235/85/16 pizza cutter size for airing down that low? Or is that one of those times you're better off with a fat tire to try "floating" on the snow?

    That's actually the exact size I'm currently running. I have them on a set of stock wheelies which are super narrow. In the snow I start at 7psi, and then when it starts getting sketchy I go to 3 or 4. Haven't lost a bead yet. Knock on wood.

    That's my thinking when I'm out and about, 4x4 gets me out of the shit I'm in. I took a long ass drive a few weeks ago in a snow storm, every one was like you should be ok you have 4x4, that will get you there. I was like, nope 2wd get me there.



    YAaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh! That looks like fun!

    I drove in 34” of snow with a stock 2015 Silverado on stock tires.
    As for the Tacoma, the deepest I’ve driven in was prob 20” on the wranglers

    I know I push my luck, but I've got a lot of miles at 3psi. Running Trxus m/t. I think it's the super narrow wheel that makes it work for me. Those stock taco steelies are something like 7" wide.

    yeah 7" sounds right. I'm a believer in those pizza cutters too. The Blizzak DM-V2 doesn't come in that size unfortunately, and I don't want to go with the W965 if I don't have to. For what I do (everyday MN driving, which is snow half the time haha) I'm going to stick with 265/75/16. But if Blizzak ever makes that 235/85/16 I'm in

    I don't think you gain anything from the pizza cutters on packed snow or ice. The benefit really shows up when you're breaking trail in 3 feet or more. For everyday winter driving I'd be on something with shit-tons of siping and a snowflake on the sidewall.

    It's just a different flavor......better overall winter performance. Either would still be a step up over All Terrains when it comes to snow + ice

    you could get the pizza cutter in the W965 though. I don't drive in it enough to justify a dedicated winter tire like the Blizzak, just curious if there was something wrong with the W965.

    right, if I realllllly wanted the pizza cutters, I could get the W965. For now, I'll take brains over braun and stick with the better technology rubber in the DM-V2s

    They’re E-rated and pretty heavy, that’d be my issue. Haven’t tried the blizzaks but I ran the e-rated pizza cutter Firestone Winterforce LTs and while they kick ass in snow, the on-pavement experience is pretty rough, especially with how torn up our roads are now. I’d imagine the W965 are a similar experience. I like the pizza cutter size but will probably suck it up and go with whatever I can find in a load range that doesn’t feel like it’s gonna beat up on my suspension so much.
