I'm thinking of buying OEM keys on Ebay and have a dealer cut and "program" them. Providing I can get a dealer to agree to this, what have people paid for this service?

why wouldn't the dealer agree to sell you new keys?

id highly recommend buying TechStream off Ebay and doing it yourself though...
i believe my dealer charged me $9 to cut a new key, and i programmed it myself.

    I stand corrected.

I should have said that US 4 cylinder Tacoma's do not have chipped keys.

I forgot about the frozen wastelands. :)

I bought two aftermarket G code keys off of eBay and my Toyota TIS tool would not program them on my 2015. Even my locksmith using two different programming tools could not get it to take. I bought an OEM G code key which was cut and programmed by the dealer. Cost was just over $100 and it worked with no issues. I ended up paying more because I tried to go cheap up front and I would have been further ahead if I just bought the key from the dealer in the first place. Just my recent experience after trying to do it myself without success.

I've got a 2015 and paid $40 for the key and $50 to program to a locksmith. Different years use different keys and not every place can program them. There are a couple of threads on it here.

    IIRC the dealer wanted $200.

This worked fine on your 09? (spotted in your sig). I only ask because there seems to be some post in that Amazon about it not working past 2010 Toyotas.

Actually I have, a long time ago when I was a young buck. While working at the torpedo test firing range back in the early 1970's near Vancouver, BC.

The "Frozen Wastelands" is just a jab at you. :)

Yep sure did. I got my key off of Amazon. Took it to ace hardware to have it cut and programmed it with the LHZtech mini OBD.

FWIW key fobs are like $10 on Amazon and come with instructions to program them.
Took me 2 tries, but its been working for over a year without an issue at this point.
