I'm dreaming also haha don't think bumpers will ever happen lol Aluminum would be a wise choice here, but steel is easier to work on/repair than alu. would be a tough decision

I would stay away from aluminum if you plan to actually wheel. I have already bent and repaired my relentless from hitting rocks. Bit of hammer work, bead of weld, and good to go. Aluminum can be fixed but is a lot harder and you need to be set up for it.

Haha I was just going to say the opposite. I wheel pretty hard and bash on all my armor, except my front bumper. That has yet to take a hit, even though where I go is mostly rocks.

Yeah, we have a few rocky hill climbs and ledges out our way where the front bumper gets hit slightly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q8MczWZF_k around the 1:20 min mark you can hear my bumper hit prior to climbing. That caused the front mounts to bend and shift the bumper slightly. Like I said, hammer, weld and good to go.

Dang, that light of a hit caused it to bend that much? That's surprising. Is that a steel or al bumper?

steel. The relentless bumper has mounts that tie on the bottom of the crossmember so they are always getting hit. I had to re weld them once as the original weld cracked due to the bending. Multiple hits but still....

yeah you guys all make good points, I have been told many things by quite a few people that I am well versed in the pros and cons of each. it will all come down to how I will be using the truck. that stage of my build is later on down the road, and I will make the final decision when the time comes. I only hit the trails once last year and I did the trail stock but I also didn't explore any off shutes. do I plan to wheel more then once a year? who knows haha how hard will the trails be I go on? no idea, time will tell haha but I appreciate the advice none the less

man you guys switch topics so fast I can't keep up!

You can lay the scepter cans down flat on their sides too! But Rotopax are definitely easier to mount, and lower profile. They're just so freaking expensive for what you get.

I have an aluminum front bumper and skids... It's all pretty bent and dented. I would go steel in the future just because I've ended up using it harder than I originally thought. That and I have all these plans on how to modify it, but don't have a tig welder, so can't.

yeah I wasn't sure if u could lay them down or not, I thought I remembered hearing u can but wasn't sure. that is good to know. like you said tho, the rotopax are just a lot easier to mount hahaha chances are I will end up with steel since there are way more options hahaha
