We get one of these dumb questions about every 6 months.

Dry weight is consistent, so if you are comparing empty trailers and one is 3,500 and one is 5,000, you'll know you add probably 400lbs of water (50 gallon tank), 250 lbs of gear, etc... For each person that should be consistent, so i'll always add my amount to a dry trailer, which is why I'd compare dry loads.

Your gear might not be nearly as heavy as mine, so when you compare your fully laden weight, it's pretty much meaningless to me, because I don't know how much you are loading yours up with compared to what I load up.

Dry weight is the only consistent weight short of going to a scale... I'd just prefer it if everyone could post that info instead. You can gain a lot more valuable information by knowing what effect is of your tongue weight on lightening your front axle in regard to steering feel and braking.

For example, this tells me we're both pushing the rear axle capacity and GVWR of the truck, while not pushing the GCVWR or total trailering limits. No guesswork involved.

I assume your black tank is in front of the others? That puts it on the nose. You fill it up, 30 gallons? That's another 250 pounds on the nose

that casita 16' i was talking about has small tanks, half that. 16 gallon fresh water, 15 gallon black holding, 13 gallon grey holding (which is reedonkulous, 2 quick showers, and blam, full). so yeah, you start with 128 lbs of water in the tail, and you might end up with half of that in the grey tank (which is right over the axle) and half in the black tank (up front under the head).

also, that black tank in the 'nose' of the body of the Casita is only about halfway from the trailer axle to the hitch, so only half the weight in the black tank is on the hitch, the other half is on the axle, give or take (its raining, so I'm not going out there to measure what the ratio actually is).

I know it’s lame and it’s only a yard of mulch but its my first tow with my new truck. Need to get a lower hitch to level it out but it pulled fine although it’s not much weight.

I have a weigh safe, has a 4 inch drop/rise and is useful in numerous applications. Pricey, but worth it and gives me a piece of mind knowing everythings within specs

Looks great! Would like to know how you like it and how it handles as we have been seriously looking at this style and the E-Pro. Thanks

I'll put together something in better detail in the camping thread after a few uses but for now I can saw it towed nice and straight with no major concerns. I looked around and considered many types, trying to get features while maintain a lightweight. It is much bigger in person than the photo does justice but you have a good view alongside without extension mirrors. I have the brake controller and it slowed to a stop without realizing it was really even there. Acceleration is much slower than without, obviously, so you just need to pace yourself, even at only 1/2 the towing limit. I suggest you go as light as you possibly can.

The layout has the rear U shaped dinette and full bath. It has about 6'6" of interior height which is nice, small slide to open it up a bit more and Thule awning. I also considered the 178 and 179, plus the Minnie Drop (WB) 190rd. The Winnebago did feel a bit higher quality and had a nice light interior option. Worth checking out. Lots of other options out there.

Can't wait to get it out and go camping!

Thanks very much. I will look for the full bath option as I have not looked at that in a R-Pod.

WOW, Just wow that's way over weight. Not only were you putting your life in danger but everyone you were around. Why is it so hard to adhere to towing capacities? :censored::censored::censored::annoyed::annoyed: Seriously, you should get a huge fine for that. You're blatantly disregarding other peoples safety. :frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:

I can't believe those narrow pods weight 3200 dry. What's in there weighing it down?

Hey guys, my bad. I needed to be way more specific. My total weight including the truck was 9200 lb. My truck empty at the dump is only 3800lb so I was only towing 5400lb on the trailer give or take. My bad for setting everyone off.
I took the post down to not freak anyone out. :annoyed:My bad

NOT IN THE LEAST! If he was actually towing 9200# that is 2.5-3 times the payload capacity for that truck; the truck weighing around 3800# with a towing payload outweighing the truck (and the towing capacity too) by 5400#! Who do you think would win if something went wrong with the load or truck? <-- I'll fill you in... its not the truck or the drivers response.

Furthermore, if the operator did it in full knowledge of the capacity of the truck and something went wrong, they would be held fully liable for negligence. Towing is not something to fool around with, all too often people get INJURED, or DIE because an overweight vehicle's habits and control are changed. The person who operates an overweight truck, or truck and trailer may grossly underestimated its response and their total control of the situation.

    Here is a worthwhile video:
