I hate the groupthink on TW that says you have to run Kings and everything else is garbage. It seems to be a bit of a measuring contest....

Get out with your actual logic....I think application is overlooked 90% of the time on here. A guy with a truck that is largely a pavement pounder is going to have totally different needs than the guy with a trail toy that likes to go fast. Race shocks are very seldom the answer for a guy that isn't beating his truck offroad...they require maintenance regularly and corrode in our Midwest moisture and salt.

I'm not saying get Kings because everybody has them. I got them because they were blue, not to mention I haven't seen anybody have any issues with Kings. I'll say the same about Fox but not about Icon. I've seen multiple top hats that have broken, never seen that on any other coil-over system. Just my $0.02.

I say for first time users get out and use your truck, if you want to go down this path of off-roading. Buy once cry once. But you won't know until you get out there

I'm happy with my very generic 5100s, used 885 coils from @totmacher, and Deaver AAL. -the cookie cutter lift

Even though I'm trying to figure out why one rear shock seems to be "sweating" a little. The pair are a touch used from @presta24 but nothing major, around 10k miles he estimated

It clears fine where it is currently, so I’m good. Just wanting a little more ride height.

I’m so scared of spacers, and I want to do it right the first time around.

Sounds like icon is a little sketchy for some people.

How much maintenance goes into a set of Fox 2.5 or Kings? Not planning on rock crawling the thing, just light trails and a little fun.

Body lift also accomplishes this, and comes in a one inch variety. Moves the body away from the suspension to give you more up travel.

I run a top plate spacer...works fine, gave me an inch up front (giggity), and was easy to install. I don't exactly baby the truck either. I didn't see the need to replace a new, good suspension for 1" of lift. I did replace the springs out back, originally with an AAL, then with new packs.

Haha... because I'm not an internet hero or a keyboard commando. I enjoy good conversation and being around good folks, not battling it out on my keyboard over what suspension someone should buy. There's alot of options out there, people need to decide what they need to accomplish their goals. Enjoy the vehicles first and foremost, that's why we are all here.

Around here I think guys get 2-3 years before they have to come apart if they are used on a daily driver. The road grime is hard on the shaft seals and the salt attacks the bodies. It's not uncommon to see bodies be junk after just a year or two because the threads are all boogered up. If you stay after them with a lubricant or something else to protect the body, they will last longer. Guys work around it all the time but it should be a consideration when looking at a rebuildable, race style shock.

Ok, now I get it Billies = Bilstein...gotcha I've always loved Bilstein. Ran them on a bunch of cars and trucks, never had an issue and always felt they were good value for the money.

It's quoted above so aint like nobody isn't gonna see my responses...lol Chime in dude, guys like you no doubt have more experience than I do. I've only owned 2 Tacos and the first one I never modded.

I can speak from personal experience about the following companies...

    Toytec (on my 07' FJ)
Fox / Eibach TRD Pro Suspension (on my 17 TRD Taco)
Bilstein / Eibach (2015 T4R Pro) (multiple cars and a GMC Sierra)
Icon Stage 2 (on current rig 18' T4R)

I can share what I've read about anyone else, although it may all be b.s. because it did come from the internet after all...lol

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
30k miles and almost 2 years on my kings. daily driver.
Assuming it'll be obvious and I'll know when it's time for maintenance on them.
I spray them every few months with some WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube PTFE. Keeps them bright and clean looking.

Stock, our vehicles are very capable. I was stock last year at LBL.
Yes, I got hung up a few times. Because I either, lifted when I should've stayed steady on the pedal, or just got too big for my britches and wanted to be cool like the big tires guys and drive through a sand swamp.
