Embarrassingly, the update is that I've fixed my problem by locating the proper connector which had fallen way back behind the dash! The confusion happened because the CRUX harness adapter that I purchased had a 24 to 16 pin adapter that came with it and was optional depending on which connector the car needed.. I never used it because I knew we had the 24 pin connector but the instructions stated that there would be one plug that doesn't get used. I mistook the 28 pin connector (that I plugged in) for the 24 pin that was still in the dash, and figured the plug that was left over was the one that the instructions were saying would not be connected. Short version- I'm a dummy but finally figured it out.

Glad it was an easy fix. Been there done that kind of stuff. I’m an installer and 1 time I remember a customer wanting me to install 4 new speakers into him vehicle. I did the install and turned it on and zero sound. I was thinking wtf?!?!?... then I just so happened to look on 1 of my benches and there was sitting 8 speakers. I was REALLY thinking what is that. Go out of the truck and said I’ll be damn..... I pulled the 4 factory speakers out and took the new speakers out of the box and never installed the new ones. I even took the took the door panels off obviously to get out the old speaker but then reinstalled them back with NO SPEAKERS. FRom that point on I always check before puting panels back on for sound. Just one of those moments we all get.

Wow...I’d like to mention that I made the exact same mistake with the same crux harness. After a weekend of banging my head against the wall, I came across this thread and had a “oh shit” moment. Went out the the truck at 6am and sure enough.... problem solved. Thanks OP

This is the exact same problem I ran into with my 2017 Tacoma. There are two plugs the same size that could fit the receptacle on the Maestro box. Naturally, I used the incorrect plug. After I had validated every possible cause, I thought "what have I go to lose." Switched plugs and Woohoo! Now I am getting an "amp errror" warning, but that is another issue altogether different...... I hope.
