ECM is Engine Control
TCU is Transmission Control
you do both

 

ECM = for Engine
TCU = For transmission

There is a tune for the engine, and a separate tune for the transmission.

 

It's been a while since I went through the initial licensing process, so I recommend you have a read of OV instructions here:

ECM refers to the main computer or brain of your truck, and TCU refers to the transmission controller.

Okay, man this is confusing to me.
Let me see if I got this straight.

You flash the ECM and then you flash the TCU? How come I don't see anything in the instructions about the TCU or did I miss it?

 

Yes - this tune is the real deal. 1.01 was great at adding some power for premium, a bit smoother, and actually turning the skinny pedal into something that resembled throttle control. It was great. 1.02 was a progression on that but for me wasn't as refined, so I ended up running 1.01 until 1.03 was available and you can DEFINITELY tell the difference having and R&D truck to drive and test with hundreds of files. It's miles above any prior version and is on a different planet from stock in every way.

 

ECU is where most of the magic happens - this will be the P5-Canbus drop down. The one with "gearbox" in the name from the dropdowns in PCM flash is the "TCU" Seems confusing and the first time it is but it will all come into clarity once you tinker a bit

I almost bought the MT, but when I drove it it felt like I was going to snap the stick. I used to own a 2003 manual 4 banger and it was awesome. 2WD and never got stuck once, just keep on it in 2nd....wish i never sold it

It's not hard at all, pretty much if you have a Windows Disc then throw it in and then you can run Windows within this product.

You can get a free 60 day trial from here that should get you what you need. I would be VERY curious but it should work.

 

@SpeySquatch if you search Insider Edition on the alpha thread I think @mesojdm was the one who posted up a completely free solution which is what I used and it works just fine. Takes a little tech knowledge but you use VirtualBox which is free and sign up for insider edition windows pro. Other options are likely “cleaner” but that solution will work and won’t cost you a dime

87, as far as I know only one tune currently for autos. Anybody feel free to correct though. Follow @dYL0n videos, turn everything off, 2 presses on the start button. When you load your tune, let it idle for a while to ease the surge we talk about. I had to load it twice and do that, had the best luck loading it in at the coldest temp and letting it idle. But could just be my truck. After that, enjoy

Don't be ruining our tune by telling Toyota. Let them find out on their own, they'll work harder maybe. Plus, what if they hire Mat, he get a nice cooperate gig, he's not going to put up with this sometimes productive, sometimes soap opera, sometimes daycare forum thread

 

If you can jailbreak a Firestick, this is gravy with the instructions & support by Mat or the forum

 

Is this tune really worth the almost $800 price tag? My truck drives decent overall and really good in ECT mode which is free and won’t void a portion of my warranty if something goes wrong.

Those that have it say yes... but if you're happy with the ETC mode, then just buy @mesojdm 's all time ETC mod. and call it good. I think the truck is ok, in normal... a little better in ETC... but my dongle will be here tomorrow. $800 to make a good truck better is worth it... but that's my opinion...
