I have read a lot on here and other forums, and it seems this might be a subjective question, but there has to be some objectivity to it.

I am getting closer to either attempting a retrofit (not likely), or getting one done (probably through Kustom 54, their work looks awesome).

I am asking this because if I am going to spend $700, what's another $200 for a better projector? I don't want to get a set, be disappointed, and sell them. Because that's what will happen. I want to do it right the first time.

So, what is the best projector? Morimoto FXR? That is the way I am leaning. They appear to be more liked than the minis, but more difficult to install. Which is fine with me if someone else is doing it.

I doubt there is any one projector that beats all and because opinions vary there is no right or wrong answer. I know many have said that the 3rd Gen TL projector with a clear lens will out perform a Morimoto FX-R but they are getting harder to come by. Most who do HID conversions also swap parts from other projectors to make them perform better. It doesn't always come down to price so it's not about what money can buy these days. If you're not doing the retrofit yourself then you are going to over pay no matter what projector you choose. The newer Morimotos are getting easier to do custom though so that helps.

Well what I mean by the money is that no matter how you do a retrofit, it’s going to be expensive. I am willing to go with the best parts, because what’s the difference when it’s expensive either way?

Your post is what I mean, this stuff is confusing. I’m trying to not regret what I put in and end up redoing it.

    I will continue reading..

I am definitely overthinking it. I’ve narrowed it down to either the H1s or the FXRs. I don’t know if I trust myself to do this, so if I pay Kustom 54 or another company, difficulty doesn’t matter since I’m not doing it. That’s why I brought up the money part, it’s only a little more for the FXR. If they’re better I’ll go that route.

Well if it doesn't matter the price then the FX-R would be my choice. It's a bigger lens and brighter than the mini H1.

It’s a couple hundred more, but it’s outrageous either way, so it doesn’t matter.

I think this is the kind of justification I’m looking for

I appreciate you guys’ input. I recently got some cheap halogen projectors, and they’re not terrible, but I want something better. I also got some Morimoto XB LEDs and I love the color and output, I want to match the headlights with something similar.

RX with STi R clear lens is hard to beat for HID setup. That or some Lexus SC's.

LED: Koito bi-led found in many Toyota/Lexus are the bees knees. iLens bi-led are a close second

    LASER:
Audi R8, BMW i8 and a handful of 7/8 series have them. Talk about some light distance. This will be the normal in 5-10years.

Koito makes great projectors. I have Koito projector fogs from a Lexus. Also s2000 projectors w/ E30 lenses will give SC's a run for their money.

Ok let me modify this thread, apparently enough money can buy some crazy shit (lasers lol). I’m talking about the more commonly used stuff, I’ll say it’s more of an H1 vs. D2S vs. FXR debate for me. More like is it with the extra little bit for the FXR over the H1.

Great info here though so far. It has only complicated things more for me, which is a good thing.

That's slick, I want those with square lenses too. Would look nice in my boxy 84.

Actually the laser module is smaller than the bi-led projector(which is about the size of most projectors)
