So I leave my headlights on all the time (not on auto). So today i used my remote start (dealer installed), to warm up my truck before going out to clean up the snowstorm. So my truck ran for 12 minutes or so and shut off. After that i got my boots on to clean up and went outside. When i went outside my headlights were still on. So the time passed was about 30 minutes after i started the truck. Why would the lights still be on?

Because the headlight switch is on and when the truck started it started the headlight timer. I don't know what your timer is set at but it's usually 30 minutes.

But after driving, i shut off the truck and headlights shut off after 30 seconds. Not minutes

I'm pretty sure that the 30 second timer is initiated when you push the 'push to start' button to shut the engine off. But in the case of a remote start, this step is omitted so it's no different than if you just left your lights on without starting your truck.

The truck needs to see a door open or they need to break open the auto light wire with a relay in order to turn the lights off. Take it back to them whoever installed it didn’t install it correctly

Good point. I was thinking it was tied to the button. I was wrong!

everything in the book (online manual) says all lights shut off after 20 minutes to avoid battery drain. Im going to test that now but I know it was longer than 20 minutes when I did it today.

I too leave my lights in the ON position. When I get out, I don’t touch the switch. I just make sure to hit my remote lock button two times - it locks and turns off the lights. When I unlock, get in, and start up... the lights are on. It has been policy for quite a long time for many large companies that you drive with lights on at all times, so it is an old habit for me.

Well after my last post I hit the remote start. That was at 925. It ran for 12 minute then turned off. So that was 937. At 1020 I went out and physically started the truck because the lights were still on and I didnt want a dead battery. So that part doesnt shut off after 20 minutes like they are suppose to. So they were on 43 minutes. right now I am testing the 20 minutes after me shutting off the truck. that will be at 1040.

Do you have the premium technology package? I don't, and my lights aren't 'auto on/off'. If left on, the head unit surround is too dim to see the soft buttons during the day. That's because the lights are in 'night time' mode because the headlights are on during the day. I sort of miss having auto headlights.

I do have the prem tech. and as for the 20 minute test, they did shut off after 20 minutes when I was the one that shut the truck off.

thats because you leave the light switch in the “on” position.....when you open the door you should get a warning in the info area to turn off lights...if you don't turn switch to “off”, the lights will stay on.......in the “auto mode”, when you open the door the lights will automatically go out after 30 seconds when you shut door and lock it by the switch on the door handle......if you hit the key fob, or they will go out immediately.....if in auto mode, will not come on when you start the truck unless if is dark outside and the sensor detects low light.....

I leave my lights on all the time, too, and I have a remote start installed. Today I started my truck with the remote start to go to lunch, but one of my coworkers offered to drive, so I turned it off with the remote start. Lights went off immediately.

It does that for me too if I push the button to shut off remote start or if I open the door but my problem is the remote start runs 12 minutes then shuts itself off and the lights dont go off.

Hm. I’ve never let mine run the timer down, so I’m not sure what it does.

What do you think it should do? Turn them off when the truck shuts off? Turn them off on a timer? Something else?

Nope, no premium (I think that gets you the auto headlights).

Correct. I leave my lights in the full on mode. I get the warning at exit, but just hit my remote twice to lock/turn everything off. When I start up next time, everything is on.

well if the truck isnt running anymore they should shut off. why would I want them to stay on and drain the battery?
