Best way to get her top off.

Hey brain trust,

Looking into getting a cap but I would like to get it on and off easily as I need the bed open at times for work. So does nobody have ingenious ways to do that and store it. I was thinking some sort of pulley system hanging from ceiling at rear of garage. I could back in and hook it up and lift it and leave it hanging as I drive out from under it. Any variations on that idea or any other ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like the soft topper is more suited to your needs.

 

You could get one of these, and make it somehow work for you.

This is what I'm looking for. I actually found one made for lifting caps and jeep tops from this link. I may just use the design and rig up my own from pulleys and tackles. This gives me the basic layout. Thanks. When I get it figured up I'll post pix and setup.

I know the Alu-Cab is only around 130lbs - could definitely be removed by yourself.

 

I use a a couple of 4x4's suspended with eye bolts, and motorcycle tie-downs to raise/lower/store my 180 pound RTT. Not as quick as a pulley system, but cheap and effective. I raise it up 2 inches, one corner at a time. Takes me about ten minutes to lift it up 2 ft.

@15+1 has it right. With four straps (good for redundancy) you’re basically only lifting 1/4 the weight, so reefing on the straps a little at a time is easy.
