I'm now taking the buckshot approach. Just ordered two more from two different sites. If I end up with more than one actually delivering, I'm sure I can resell at cost here.

Damn, sorry to hear that. Now I am dreading the same email. Hoping they put my order in before this new requirement was enforced.

Orderer a faux grille on eBay from China and it never showed up. Ebay issued a refund, which made it painless, but ended up ordering OEM off of Amazon.

I tried that route too, only found the 2016-2017 model, not the 2018.

I know the first difference... double the price for the 16-17 vs. 18.

I suspect the intent was/is 'that it fits the 16-17 non-TSS Tacomas'. At least that was my intent when I posted.

Well, Route 22 Toyota declined my money. One more still pending, plus the earlier response I'm waiting on. I wonder how the local BBB would feel if I went in to a store to purchase a diamond, and the sales clerk told me 'oh... we only sell those to people that have bought this ring here'. This is sort of similar to that. I get the position Toyota has put themselves in... Pros are probably what, 1/100 of Tacoma sales? Let market forces play out!

In addition, isn't Toyota creating a market for stolen parts. Not saying I would buy one...but still.

Yes, the Garnish piece is the only difference between the 17 and 18, dont understand Toyota pricing structure on it though.

Well I tried to order through Tracy Toyota in Northern Cal. Here is the response I received back after I submitted my order.

"The TRD Pro Grille PT228-35180 is currently only being released to vehicles that came equipped with it from factory, which means I need the VIN to email our Toyota warehouse."

Looks like of four purchases, one has refunded, one has asked for more info but not responded after I did, one has processed payment, and one is pending. It's a big crap shoot out there.

<edit> two have processed. One still pending. PayPal that is.

***************** (screw it, I give up:... bam whole sale parts)

Not sure why the links are acting weird, but you can google by name if necessary.

But I'm honestly expecting a cancelation notice based on all the other activity everyone is posting.
