There have been a couple of Japanese companies that have falsified test reports.Seems to be a trend. I work in aerospace and when these issues are found we have to report whether or not we have used any of these companies materials in our products. .

I remember way way back in the 1970's that my father wouldn't buy anything made with Japanese steel. He said that they used mostly recycled steel and it had too many impurities in it. Maybe he was right.

Yeah well except there's a thing called chemistry/metallurgy ... its not the impurities but what they use as the ingredients. Prolly skimping on one that costs a lot of money to import. Remember Japan has very little natural resources.

    iron ore/scrap steel
    coal - coke
    limestone

Energy to boil ^^^ ... ohhhh hey maybe they were skimping on energy!

How to make sub-standard steel is; likely they do it ON PURPOSE! And why the class action lawsuit.

Maybe Trump will bring real steel back to America. Too many fake steel specs coming from overseas.

Guys, Toyota uses multiple vendors for everything, including steel. Kobe is just one of several providing Toyota steel.

First rule of thumb: Never put all your eggs in one basket. Buying from one source breaks that rule.

Well DANA at the time made the frames, then they were sold to a company In Mexico so maybe. Mexico has been found as a haven for even crappier Chinese garbage steel and metal to import in to the US

Toyota is really good at managing supply chain, finding things locally, costing negotiations, and usually quality. There are many scholarly articles even on their way of doing this and is why our Japanese trucks are way more American made than a GM or Ford. I live in MI and really want to get a back window sticker that says at least my truck was made with wrenches, not chopsticks XD.

I have an 02 4runner. The frame is very rusty and it wasn't included in the class action. It was made in Japan. I'd like nothing more than to get a new frame. I've complained to Toyota. I know it's not just mine.
