Question: I currently have 265/70/17 Duratracs on FN -6offset 17x8.5". Tires are 36k in so they've worn a good bit but, without mudflaps I get zero rub at stock height. I added Husky flaps and trimmed the hell out of them in the wheel well so I don't have any rub. Once these tires are ready to be replaced, I want to do 255/75/17 with all the same stuff, will it rub more or less?

so, the new setup would be 30mm taller, I know on what I have now the side lugs are what rub, not sure how that equates to whether they will rub.

Hey friends, great thread thanks for all the info. Going to step into the stock gen 3 with skinnies test team this month thanks to this thread.

Curious if anyone has any experience or thoughts comparing the following 255/85/16 tires:

    BFG KM2
    Toyo MT
    Cooper ST Maxx

I know the Cooper tires are more of an “AT” type tire, prob quieter than the other two. I have owned the Toyo MT in the past but it was at 285/75/16. Never had the KM2 but have the KO2 on my wife’s truck and they are awesome.

Thanks for any feedback and info.

IIRC your new tire diameter will be a half inch larger? The tire tire is slightly narrower but on the same width and backspaced wheel. It will be very close the same amount of rubbing I would estimate. Are you keeping the same type of tire? How square the shoulder on the new tire and it’s actual measurements under weight will also impact how it fills the well. It’s a tough call, but it should be close. At worse you have to trim a very amount.

What is the word on your ST Maxx tires? They look awesome. Do you have the ability to compare to a KM2?

12mm taller, not 30mm...so as H. Taco says lots of other small factors will determine how much.

I've only had them for a couple weeks but would give them a thumbs up so far. I had 265 75r16 General X3s before which in comparison the Coopers are super quiet and much smoother. I havent gotten them dirty yet or done any towing since mounting them but I'll let you know how it goes. The Generals had a ton of traction but the load range C X3s definatley bulged and added allot of rolling resistance when loaded up.

Well man, finally getting back to you. The bavk spacing is oem for 04 and earlier from what i found. They are i think 1/2" outboard vs 05+. Here ya go though, me the wife and a bunch of guns, plus a full tank, spare tire, and 10 gallons of gas. Rear was at 20psi front was 22psi.

FYI - A couple of weeks ago I swapped the All-season tires (Hancook?) on my '17 Sport MT for Cooper Discoverer A/T3's (235/85 R16) and Wednesday was the first time I we had any significant snow. Wow - what a difference. I knew the OEM tires were terrible but I truly didn't appreciate just how bad they were until the snow hit. So if you're on the fence about making the change, my opinion is go for it.

I am very interested in going with the Coopers in 255/85/16. I have read mixed reviews on the MAXX's. There seems to be varying opinions on treadwear. I have seen claims of less the 20,000 miles and worn out. I have also seen claims of 60,000 with tread still left. I have also heard they can be challenging to balance. I also haven't talked to anyone that has run 5 sets. I think this is a mute question or you wouldnt have bought 5 sets, but what has been your experience? How many miles did you get out of yours? Were the earlier sets better than newer?

Belt and suspenders, eh... How are you liking the Extreme Countrys? I don't see many folks running them.
