I have a 2015 Tacoma SR5 4x4. The voice recognition system really sucks in this truck. I will hit the button on the steering wheel and it says How may I help you? Whatever I say, it sends me somewhere else. I usually have to do it 4 or 5 times before it does the right thing. It is so frustrating. Also, on the navigation, when you put in a destination, after you drive for a while, and it tells you a command, it says it over top of the radio and you cannot make out what it says. The system sucks some serious ass. Stereo blows too!

Perhaps Toyota will consider this as a fix for their voice recognition: Enable manual input with a stylus. When, I named mine Thelma, cannot understand English, override it and enter it manually.
It is especially bad for me because even after two ENT surgeries I live congested.
We all know that computers are not to be trusted, I am amazed that there is not already a manual input option.

I have a hunch your tacoma feels mutual, maybe if your were to try a positive approach, you may get better results. For instance, in the morning try saying. “Good Morning Star-shine”.

2016 Tacoma. Yes it really sucks. Toyota should be ashamed. It truly is crap. It is first gen voice recognition. I am going to write the Gods on Mt. Fuji and demand a recall. It barely works sitting in the driveway. Once on the road and it's useless. No help from Toyota on this.

Hmmm... I wonder what I could see streaming on the USB post. Any one done this?

2021 update. : Now after my last service, the voice won't even let me choose a previous destination until I "safely" stop the car and doesn't give me to add a new destination. Tried voice training - no luck . several different people also completed the training - same result. Both of them shook their head and told me they couldn't
I'm sick of hearing "I'm Sorry. What was that"? Try saying something like ..... (yada yada.)
A computer is not sorry. Stop being verbose. Does anyone know of an "approved" word list that this system recognizes?
I'm starting to think that the microphone is distorting the audio.

6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
It’s working perfectly. Voice recognition rarely works as advertised, so by engineering standpoint it’s working perfectly
