Just purchased a ‘17 TRD. Love the truck, but hate the engine noise.

I will be the first, don't start it up. Joking aside this motor does sound a little odd at idle. Coming from V8 though.

Yeah, you'll get used to it, I hardly notice it anymore. <6 months into ownership

I'm at 51k on my truck and in 1st gear (MT) at 3k+ rpms it sounds like the valves are knocking. Been that way since new and was told it's normal by several dealers. I'm still not used to it and i hate it but I just live with it.

It is normal. You think ours is bad, drive a 4Runner with the 4.0. Sounds like a diesel.

Turn up the radio and just drive it.

Shut the engine off when not in use. When in use at cruising speeds, the road noise will overcome engine noise, when in traffic turn on the radio, watch out for pedestrians, green light and (keep) distance to car in front.

This will all help keep your concentration in the important things that matter, and drown out the normal that must run its course.

Problem solved, enjoy your truck :D

Its the atkinson kicking on/some saying injectors cleaning. Its got a little bit of a raspy diesel tone to it but higher pitched from what I hear. I think its normal for the engine, but a little weird.

Do you need to know, or care?
It's the injectors being cleaned, all normal, just sounds like a Dodge Caravan at idle :p.
