ARB say they don't have recovery points on the bumper cause it uses the airbag mounts. its not supposed to be used to snatch from as you could set off the airbags.

Interesting.. ive also heard this as well but ive always wondered how you can winch from it but you cant snatch from it. I guess it has to do with the winch being centered in the bumper or something

That and way it mounts. I think the winch portion is mounted to the frame is it not?
Plus it's a steady pull. Not a sudden shock. The sudden impact is what sets off airbags.

Im not sure if the 3rd gen ARBs are different but the second gen ARB bumper mounts to a bracket that mounts to the frame. Then the winch actually gets mounted in the bumper that mounts to their provided bracket so it seems like the whole thing is attached to the frame. I could be wrong though bc i dont have a winch in mine..

It makes sense what youre saying about the sudden shock caused from snatching off of it though. Let us know how the recovery point holds up once you get a chance to use it please!

I have no doubt it will hold up great as its strong as hell. My only concern with it is I've smoked the old one before and this is now connected to my frame so just need to be careful now as I'm worried about having all that transferred into my frame.

Just going to be careful as without lift the approach angle isn't great in these.

And I imagine the 2nd gen would be the same case though with the airbags. As all ARB bumpers are supposed to be rated for airbags.

@rjbiii was just looking at the 3rd gen one at least and it mounts using factory crush points plus other brackets which is why it remains airbag compliant. So ya can't snatch off it but you can winch.

Nice install write up, with my tax refund on the way I’ll be ordering one of these soon. Have you put it to the test yet?

I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought this recovery point even though i have a 2010 2nd gen. Some ARB stuff lists this same part number for the second gen as well but most retailers only list it for 3rd gen trucks. I have an ARB front bumper so i needed something with a solid recovery point and this fit the bill perfectly. It required some drilling out of an oblong hole on both sides. I did not have to remove any wheels and my front skid plate and the rock guard for the ARB bumper was already off the truck and still needs to be put back on, as well as the winch and level the bumper. just fyi for anyone searching

They are a solid built piece of equipment. Actually wish they cam stock on the ARB bumpers. I love mine. HAvent; had to use it, hope I don't, but I know if I need to self recover this sucker will rip the truck in two before failing.

Look what was waiting for me when I got home from a work trip!88957E0B-5801-4A11-A7EB-6AC091779EFC.jpg
Beefy AF, can’t wait to get this bad boy on using @Joe23’s tips.

I ordered from 4wheel parts website, and I’m not real happy with the experience. Mostly because I ordered Sunday 2/18, and got no shipping notification the whole week. So I emailed them, they said it’ll ship Tuesday 2/27.

I should add that they charged my card pretty much IMMEDIATELY after I ordered.

On Wednesday 2/28 I checked the order status and it had shipped that afternoon, still never got an email notification. When I opened it there was a box inside another box, and the piece wrapped in some pretty thin bubble wrap. As you can see there are some spots where the powder coat got dinged off, I think it was rubbing against the hardware.

Not a big deal but here in upstate NY that shit’ll rust pretty much instantly. I’ll probably pick up some caliper paint or similar to touch it up before install.

Can’t wait to try it out, who wants to go wheelin’!

Mine did not have much bubble wrap either and the warning sticker was put on upside down.......ARB has notoriously poor powdercoat from what I have read about bumpers and such.

Good to know. It did look like the inner box may have been how the factory ships it, so I can’t really fault 4WP for that. I expect I’ll need to touch up the paint regularly.

I've had the opposite experience with ARBs powdercoating. Also haven't heard many complaints form on here either. Arb bumpers don't seem to rust away they seem to last the lifetime of the truck. That shipping damage however, sucks, especially in your corrosive area. 20160422_150501_2 (1).jpg

I'm even more North of you in Ontario lol .
If you're using it, it will get dinged off road anyways.

For what it's worth mine is pretty beat and no rust on it.
