Might want to show her this article from CNN yesterday. Main profile is local provider UCHealth.

    http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/08/news/economy/nurse-hiring-bonuses/index.html

No clue what level their trauma centers are but I would look at Vail, Aspen (live in Carbondale), Durango or Grand Junction

You had a nice little neighborhood. You could kind of see the mountains far far away. When I was living in Fort Collins I could see the mountains in the distance and I was like screw this I didn't leave Florida to see the mountains in the distance. I want to be in them.

I'm really beginning to get jaded too.

Moved here 25 years ago and I'm just not feeling it anymore. It's nowhere near the same place that brought me out here.

We have college students for that. And you.

So did/do I, or at least I thought/think. Unfortunately economics and the kinds of work I do (am good at) don't seem to align with getting up there. I've had a couple of near misses (like replacing guy in Vail/Eagle who was commuting up from Denver three times a week), but never made it. And there's certain lifestyle changes I'm not sure I'm compatible with (like potential long daily commutes or hour drives to get groceries). Actually I'd love to hear more about living up in the mountains from people who do - what people do for a living and other stuff most people probably don't think about for just day to day life.

Look at it this way, we throw some pretty good parties at our house, so you can come help blow up the neighborhood :D
Well unfortunately she is stuck here until grad school is done or else we would have already moved back in 2016/17 :(

Do you know if these numbers are based on household income or whether you'd need to double it for a married couple?

Living in the mountains is a thousand times better than living in the city. I don't think my family could ever move back to a city. I am a custom home electronics installer so I work in multimillion dollar 2nd, 3rd and 4th homes(people have too much money) luckily my job is only 3mins from my house, and the grocery store is 5mins away. Amazon prime is a must have since there aren't any stores nearby. It's 1 1/2 hours to target and chick fil a. Main things that suck about living in the mountains is the lack of fast food and good food options. You get tired of eating at the same restaurants. Perks of living in the mountains is I am 15 mins away from grand lake and Rocky Mountain national park. Not far from dirtbike trails and some of the best hiking ever. 30 mins away from winter park resort and never hit any of the Denver traffic to go skiing.
I am really blessed to be living in the area we are living in. An additional bonus is I met the love of my life up here and we had a beautiful baby girl. Little girl is only 9months old and she has already been on some amazing hikes and camping, can't wait till she is a little older so we can go on more adventures

X2, I've spent enough time in cities.

I'm in a bigger and more touristy area than Charlie, so I do have access to some more amenities, especially restaurants, but still end up driving to the front range or towards I70 for some shopping.

10 minutes to work, or the ski area. Same time to some endless public land and forest service roads in the summer. No traffic. There are plenty of people who live outside of town, and end up with a 30 minute or so commute, but that's down a twisty mountain road, not an gridlocked interstate.

Friendly people. Most people are here because they enjoy it, not because they feel tied to it like a city. Don't let a job keep you in a place you don't want to be.

Aside from housing, cost of living isn't much different. Groceries are the same price. Gas is 10-20 cents more a gallon.

Gratuitous picture from my office right now.

New brewery is opening this afternoon in Westminster. About 100 yards from the house, and along my normal drive home from work. Can't wait!

Looking at the map, are they opening in the old Safeway?

Edit: I see now, it's in the old Dollar Store. My wife I and used to live in Harmony Park and always said that corner store would make for a good restaurant-type space.
