Driving to work today I ran out of gas which I have never ran out of gas yet in this truck before. Pull over get gas. Start the truck and TRAC light and check engine light on. Figured it would turn off after a minute. Go into work someone comes and tells me my truck is pouring out gas. It looks like there’s a hole in the fuel tank. Has this happened to anyone yet? It only has 10,500 miles on it and just got the 10k service completed last weekend. I’ve had no issues with this truck, so bummed!

Happened to my friend's 2nd gen. Someone actually drilled a hole in the tank to get his gas.

Well called toyota care and they called 911 cause they had to clear the hazardous area since this is at my work before they can tow. I hope my warranty covers this. He said it’s a pretty big hole.

Doesn't help that the gas "skid" is this cheap POS plastic. Once it's fixed I would get steel or aluminum gas skid.

Doesn't matter. The thieves around here can slide under with a big pan, drill your tank with a big hole and be off with your gas in less than two minutes. Metal or plastic. If you have a skid on the bottom, they will drill the sides.

This wouldn’t happen from running out of gas right? I don’t remember the low fuel light being on last night when I got home from work. I only live 10 miles away so should’ve had enough gas this morning.
