so i'm selling my 2017 truck because i bought a 2018 4x4. so i took out my prinsu to install it on my 2018, and i noticed that the clearcoat is fading right under where the rubber strip that seals prinsu to the roof for noise deadening. So that rubber piece that they sell, thru small vibrations is eating up the clear coat on the roof.

if you have a prinsu with the noise deadening strip, MAKE SURE YOU PUT A VINYL PIECE UNDER IT to protect your paint.

my 2017 only have 4000 miles. i was able to buff it out. but if you leave it there long, it will eat it thru paint.

I've never noticed that with mine but I'll have to pull it off and check, thanks for the tip.

The light bar came with them, I can take a picture of it if you want? They're pretty general looking mounts, nothing crazy

Just put a toprac on I picked up used and mine does the same thing that your pic is showing. I’m guessing this happens to everyone’s unless they install the track themselves as my tracks are 37” apart which I think is standard for purchasing your shell with tracks installed. I don’t think water getting in will be an issue as it’s only the outside part of the rail that bows up and the inside is still flush, plus the bolts that actually go through the shell should be sealed with sylacone. I also noticed my middle cross bar bows like a mother fu$&er. I’m not worried about the tracks bowing but I wouldn’t mind some shims that geometrically match the feet, no clue where to get them.

Mines been off and I need to throw some washers on the feet. CBI should look into providing machined shims as an optional item.

I’m going to toss them an email with some pics and see what they say.

Are you going to put washers between the feet and cross bars? Adding extra washers under the feet doesn’t seem like a good idea. I’ve seen the other optional mounting brackets and what not. But figure I’ve already got these there has to be a way to make it work.

I've seen a lot of these posts for adding washers as spacers. I'm wondering if anyone has tried a hard rubber spacer? seems to me it'd make sense but perhaps I'm wrong.

Has anyone tried bending the feet??? Stick one end in a vise and bend it up/down a little to fit your contour.

You will only see it if you remove the front metal piece, the one that have the rubber strip

Well, it was almost a debacle. Had to abandon the rivet nuts. Those things are the devil. Ended up through-bolting 10 out of 12 bolts. Dropping the headliner wasn’t as terrible as I thought it would be either. With the way we changed the mounting technique, there was no choice but to drop it. Took all day and two trips to the hardware store. But we made it! I was surprised that I noticed zero extra wind noise on the highway headed home that night.

I didn’t take a lot of pics during the install. But I’ve got a few.

The cab rack is about 1/2” lower than the topper rack. I’m going to get new feet for the topper to lower it down and make them even. Very happy with the look. Can’t wait to start carrying my kayak up there!

I’ll get some better pics today. Didn’t finish until after 8 last night.

The issue I believe is the outside part of the mounting feet that attaches to the cross bar is not long enough, due to shells sloping down as you get further to the edge. Thus I don’t think bending the feet would help as you still wouldn’t sit flush on the rail. Common fix seems to be stacking washers between the feet and cross bars. There’s also aftermarket feet that allow you to adjust the angle they are mounted, but aren’t cheap. Going to stop at a rack shop near my house and see what they have in stock, as they build custom racks as well.

That’s the part I’m talking about bending upwards... The outside edge that mounts to the prinsu crossbar. Instead of stacking washers, just bend that tab up so that it’s level with the crossbar.
